A.I.R. dp-style front valance install

and so it begins...

Greyhound finally shipped my valance yesterday, almost 3wks from CA to CT... weather delays likely.

Rough-hung it tonight to start getting a feel of fitment issues. Some nominal trimming needed around the bellows, but overall a very sturdy and decent looking item it would seem.

Also received my H1 trim ring trim rings... primed and ready for paint. Once again, pls sexcuse the garbagio cellshotz... f'n laptop USB is blocked so txt'ing pics is easiest workaround (notquite a reacharound)... driver lense saggage due to adjusters disconnected for lense R&R

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Y...-h520-no/6.jpg

With the paintwork it made sense to address my shotgunblasted side mirror caps, so off they came too. And I've always wanted to slot-vent my rear bumper ala bkreigsr's motif har, so that'll get yoinked this week as well - trying to lump all the paintwork into one Magic Bullet where possible:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1244657819.jpg

What a kick in the frickin yonson that you pretty much have to cut the mirror cables... wasn't in the mood to unpin 97 wires from each connector and then feed each one thru, soooooo... snip! off they came. Joy.

Reading up on it, seems that's the route most take. Frustrating, I'm sure that'll pose quite the crimping treat when reassemble time comes. Awesome.

Projekt 126 simultaneouslike randomish projects, continues...

Ronnie's.930 01-31-2014 09:21 PM

Look familiar? :D

krasuskyp 01-31-2014 09:25 PM

no, why?

Ronnie's.930 01-31-2014 09:28 PM

Just a little joke about the similarities between the truck bumper and your new valence.

krasuskyp 01-31-2014 09:34 PM

caraaaazay stuff in the water down thar in TexASS, jah?

(yes, I know what you meant - alas - fish / barrel)

so yer gonna tell me this don't look good (careful! I'll sikk FRANK upon yer arse to dispatch witchyous):

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-f.../IMG_6836a.JPG

Say... is there a particular brand of glue that you sniff that you feel is most effective(destructive)?

???

Ronnie's.930 01-31-2014 09:45 PM

^^^ I wouldn't go as far as to say it looks "bad", but to me, it is definitely a big notch below the looks of the original valence (much to blocky looking). I've never seen an aftermarket valence I thought looked better than the original (I think I remember Jwasbury saying that, as well - maybe he sniffs the same glue?!) and when the time comes for me to add a nose mounted cooler, I plan to do like he, and the guy with the awesome brown 930, did and built a housing for it into an OEM valence.

Chain yanking criticisms aside, a sincere good luck with all of your projects!

Tt surgeon 02-01-2014 07:47 AM

I like it, the ruf valence also looks good.

JFairman 02-01-2014 08:04 AM

I like the DP valance looks, there was one on my car with a B&B center oil cooler when I bought it. It was one of the reasons I bought the car.
It reduces front end lift with the built in splitter on the bottom at speeds over 50 mph, has duct holes for running hoses to cool the front brake rotors, holes for flush mounting the original late eightees fog lights, and it lets you install a good sized center oil cooler.

krasuskyp 02-01-2014 08:22 AM

Nononono, Jim... unpossable! Stock is best! Ronnie says so!!!

Ron-naz-ie (that name's apparently becoming more fitting w/ each passing day!?). Man, I can't fart around here lately w/o you being all up in mah grille yo!... lighten up, Francis:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OcSzMFazIB...00/francis.jpg

Remember, opinons are like arsehoals - I don't want see yours and they all stink.

8-)

I've always really dug the look of this one, of all the ones stock or otherwise - to me - this one spoke to me the best. Suits the lines of the car, adds multi-levels of functionality.

Looking forward to install!

MikeD930 02-01-2014 04:23 PM

^^Now that's funny!

The front on Frank's looks nice! I imagine yours will too in GR.

Tippy 02-01-2014 06:00 PM

Noticed you have a 3.0 tail. You running without an IC? Meth? See your sig says '87.

Tug68 02-01-2014 06:07 PM

Look's friggen awesome don't care what other people think:)Rock on with your bad self!

356911930 02-01-2014 06:55 PM

Tippy,

"Noticed you have a 3.0 tail. You running without an IC? Meth? See your sig says '87. "

That picture is not of his 930; it is picture of what he plans to do to his rear bumper. I believe he has a standard 1987 Tea tray rear spoiler.

slow&rusty 02-02-2014 07:45 AM

That is a good looking front spoiler. I have been wanting to do something to the front end ( a bit more aggressive) of my car and this option would be certainly at the top of my list.

cole930 02-02-2014 08:44 AM

They all look good to some and they don't to others. As long as you like it that's all that counts. " Variety is the spice of life" and that's a lot of why we
are all here. Ya got to love and appreciate the spirit behind all the differences.

What a beauty. All sorts of nice personalizations... do you have a build thread?
And back O/T, that valance looks great on your car. I think the eye can change over time, too. I've noticed that with myself and rim width in particular on these cars. I know I used to despise 18s; but lately not so much.

If we all liked the same things how boring life would be!! Like Jim said it really does help at speed. No more LIGHT FEELING IN THE FRONT END over 120+ and the benefits the front cooler adds is mind easing in traffic or on the track. Go Paulie!!

xbmwguy 02-02-2014 01:33 PM

Ronnie I too like what Miguel did to the chocolate rocket

1000% amen - more pics! Such a cool build.

And funny enough, that corner indicator air scoop now resides on my car 8-). JohnPaul even included a real nice looking Porsche key fob in the packaging when he sent it, just 'because'. How cool is that?

anyway - thanks for the thought Ken...

Ronnie's.930 02-02-2014 07:24 PM

That spout on the brown car above does look pretty sharp. At some point, I'm going to add a nose cooler to mine, and will make a spout similar to that other than I think I will form the front panel to match the arch/curve of the bumper. The one above has a flat front panel and just doesn't quite look "right" (looks a bit too boxy). The way the sides are curved/blended looks good!

By now you have all seen pics of the red pig below... The pics I posted earlier in Paul"s thread (sorry for the hi-jack) were of the car before I fell down the slope and cut her up for my 934ish interpretation. I loved the way the DP air dam looked and still think it one of the best looking/most aggressive for these cars.

JohnPaul... hijack afreakinway, bish!

More pics!

That came out sooooo damn good... well done.

krasuskyp 03-09-2014 11:23 AM

Felt good to finally turn the chaos corner and begin re-assembly last night... alas, two steps forward, one step back.

2fwd: got back from paint, mocked up install of the valance and Setrab. That Setrab's an awesome piece and fits the valance perfectly. Lovin the look:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-T...o/IMG_1355.JPG
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-p...o/IMG_1359.JPG

1back: While the pieces came out great... the paint don't match. Grrrrr. Too orange. Dunno how, I'd given him my already painted mirrors and rear bumper that he could have checked for match - d'oh. Goes back for re-do tomorrow, oh well.

And of course from the files of I RULE... I re-assembled the rear bumper and mirrors... and THEN noticed the mismatch. Awesome. Bonehead.

And then... ah... some D-Zug guudness. While Roland's shifter of theirs had some issues... this piece is fookin JEWELRY... sooooooooooo niiiiiiiiiiice. The welds and finish work are excellent, and it's featherlight. Can't wait to get the car back on the ground and install:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3...o/IMG_1360.JPG

Time to pull the H1s for refurb. May have misplaced the ring 'clips' (wires)... fukk. Hope not. Doubting they're available?

mrm930 03-09-2014 07:57 PM

I purchased the same air dam from AIR. Sent the car to my body guy and it the spoiler fit so poorly that I really needed to start over. I would have had more in labor just to fit the spoiler than cost of the spoiler plus paint. So I sold the AIR spoiler and went back to a RUF one that I had originally purchased for the car.

So my first thought was the correct one in this case - lol

pkracer21j 03-09-2014 08:19 PM

Paul, ask your painter if he used a base clear instead of single stage…that can make GR have an orange tint to it...

not sure what your point is here - where did I say or show anything about fit whatsoever?

I clearly said - and the pictures clearly show - the above being an initial mock fit. My gripe was regarding the particular tint of Guards Red. Nothing about fitment.

I had my paint guy trim a few mm's off each of the side bellows areas making them longer. That's it. Fits really great otherwise.

You powers of astute deduction and perception then mustn't like my H1 fitment or excessive wheel gap shown in these pics either eh? And boy does that D-Zug strut bar fit sloppy! Like it's not even connected!

thanks for your constructive input though

Miguel Antonett 03-10-2014 05:05 AM

^^^OK Paul, it's just Monday morning... chill it! It's oing to be a good week, and stay focused on finishing all those "mini" projects to crank her up pronto. BTW, 70* and sunny down here :-)

krasuskyp 03-10-2014 05:57 AM

I know right? Got me pre-coffee. The seemingly douchey response threw me, sorry. If it were Ronnie, least I'd have a source filter to apply! :D

Heh yeah mini projects indeed... fukk... I'm up to my eyeballs in twigs 'n berries here. Parts everywhere and growing by the minute. End results will be uber, so keepin my eye on that prize dispels all angst.

Gonna be tits when done...

FU on the sun btw! XOXOXOXO, bish.

I've got yer "source filter" swangin' right here, buddy boy! http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/2/finger.gif

Good progress on the car, and I know the "do over" feeling well (either due to my own errors, or the errors of those whose work I've paid for) - not too uncommon, unfortunately!

krasuskyp 03-10-2014 06:36 AM

ahhh, no there's the reply I've been awaiting... was worried here for a second! THANKS!

THAT is the way to start off a Monday, proppah!

Yeah... same here on the "do over" modus opperendi... oh well. Least I'm in zero rush, well... not for another 4wks or so heh heh.

krasuskyp 03-12-2014 06:47 PM

alllllllllllllllllllllllllrighty then

socannot believe I am about to even admit admitting this

um, yeah... my recent paintwork doesn't match my Guards Red car

because

well, errrrrrrr uhhhhhh... my car ain't Guards. It's fookin INDISCHROT... Indian Red!!!

Now there's something I was completely floored by. Genius me in my infinite brilliance FAILED to make note of helllllo the paint code sticker in the RF inner fender under the carpet. Duh?

Always just ASSumed it was Guards. I mean, when I say Guards, this is what I think of.

I'm mortified. Tho, I'm only 1/2 to blame - my poor paint guy coulda shoulda freakin noticed the parts I handed him did not look like the parts he returned. D'oh.

He picked it all up tonight and is scuffing / reshooting. No biggie. But again, embarrassing.

I'm more just literally floored I did not know this. Colossal D'ohage!!!

What say you? Did you all know 'this'? Guards is more orangey red, Indischrot is redred. My car's cleared too - tho, it's a repaint.

WEIRD!

Ronnie's.930 03-12-2014 07:15 PM

So, Mr. I can't tell red from very red, what color is this - http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/rude/1/pissed.gif

And yes, you are probably the only person on that planet that has heard of guards red but does NOT know what it looks like! http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/ha...y-emoticon.gif

jsveb 03-12-2014 08:06 PM

Paul

I am sorry but that is kinda funny, but yes, I agree he should have done the comparison on the parts you gave him.

krasuskyp 03-12-2014 08:08 PM

Hey I said it was painfully embarrassing to admit... I'm man enough for that at least. If nothing more, I enjoy a good laugh @ mesself especially.

I got this car in '07 and am just figuring this out... ouch. Dunno how this has never come up before... like I said, weird.

Ronnie's.930 03-12-2014 08:35 PM

Paulass, I just had a thought (the first one today, of course, being a TexASS resident and all) - I bet this color trickery is your poor car's way of exacting a little vengeance for all of the abuse it has suffered by your hand: beginning with cosmetic surgery to the distinctive, rearward facing bumper tits, continuing with replacing its proper wheels with those playa' playa' rimzzz, and culminating with the addition of the DP style cattle catcher! You didn't think that those travesties would be without repercussions, did you? http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/laughing/rofl.gif

JFairman 03-13-2014 05:10 AM

Seems the guy that mixed the paint color should have gone by the paint code. If he never asked for it that sounds odd these days. Hope it comes out nice.

With the added layer of red paint it should hold up to inevitable paint chips longer before primer or gelcoat starts to show through them.

krasuskyp 03-13-2014 05:31 AM

It's both our faults - it's a friend doing this as side work out of his employer's body shop. I'd dropped the bits off and said "Guards". My fault. He had my Indischrot bits in hand which he could/should have noted right away something was awry. His fault.

No biggie, it came out great just wrong shade and will come out great again - like Jim said, nice and strong.

I'm just simply floored as to the fact I nor anyone else ever knew this about the color. That's all.

Fret not, Ronnie... I'm not doing any of this seeking yer approval nor accolades. Is going to look utterly tits (not titsly utters) when all's wrapped up in a few weeks. Getting there.

Just scored some really slick Smart Racing rotor hat ducts / block off plates / tubes (the ones Toby cloned but since I lack his mad fab skillz yo, I jumped @ some lightly used bits) which I can now plumb to the cattle catcher... schwing! Will vent me new Porterfield R4S's nicely... I'd found my Textars were toast when I'd pulled the Fuchs.

Fme tho, damn these classifieds here are just outrageously DANGEROUS... Danger Will Robinson!!! :D
