Exhaust stud jig for Marks 930 fund
I have a jig for drilling out broken exhaust studs that I'd like to sell for $100.
All proceeds will go directly to Marks 930-a-thon. This will work on all Porsche heads as far as I know. It was made by Pelican member Quiet Boom and it worked great for me.

Oh well.. it was worth a try, thanks.
I put new stainless exhaust port studs in the heads I just installed on my motor but I broke one rusty steel exhaust port stud on my old heads while trying to remove them. I got some of them out but stopped and left the rest there when one broke. I'll be selling my god condition original '87 930 heads eventually rather than store them and I want to get the one flush broken exhaust stud out before that. If anybody has one of those exhaust stud removal drilling jigs they'd loan me I'd really appreciate it and definately return it promptly. thanks, Jim |

I unintentionally broke one trying to remove the nut, and "broke" the rest on purpose with an acetylene torch! It's amazing how easily corroded-beyond-recognition exhaust stud nuts "come off" when you heat them cherry red and give them a quick squirt of straight oxygen (impressive spark show, too)!

I'm putting headers on my 930 this week, and I was happily surprised that all 12 nuts came off without breaking a single stud. I did not use a torch, but I did give them a shot of penetrant once a day for a week.

When I broke the stud the head was on a work bench with everything removed accept for the exhaust studs. I was trying to remove them too. Some screwed out but when they've been there a while some of them like to stay there.

When I am replacing studs of a questionable nature as far as age or seized potential I shrink it first. Heating/cooling the stud many times. Somewhat counter intuitive. Do not over heat is the rule (meaning not to anywhere near cherry red, maybe somewhere around 400-500F).
