Determining if I have original tires 1983 Turbo
 

When I picked up my car I was told that it had original tires and wheels. After some settling in I am trying to decipher if this is true. I have pics of the tires. Does anyone know what the OE tires were on the 1983 911 Turbo cars?
This will further determine what I am going to do with the car.

Those would not be original to that car I don't think.. since they're DOT and the car is Euro? I want to say that tire is early 90's?

My first 930 a 1979 had original tires still they were Pirelli P-7's

According to the date codes, the top tire was manufactured in the 2nd week of 2002 and the bottom tire was manufactured in the 8th week of 2001.

Not sure what tire age has to do with deciding what to do with the car. Nobody wants original tires on an old car.

The wheels should have codes on them too. They are stamped on the inside of the center of the wheel. I am sure if you post pics of the codes, people can tell you when they were made, and while it can't prove that they came with the car, it can tell you whether they were made for that model year or not.

Original tires would go to the merit of this being an unmolested, fully original car.

So now that it is obvious that the tires have been replaced, at least once (look at the wear on the lug nuts), this means the car was driven hard (burnt the tires right off her in 10,000 miles) and put away wet (look at the rust on the undercarriage and rotors.

Yes it sat outside for 9 years.......
It is by no means a cream puff, but in the same token, it is not beaten up either.
Rust on the rotors is a fact of life I can show you a car that has sat outside for a month and it will have rust on the rotors as well.......
There is a TON of tread left on the tires, not that it matters......

If that were Zuffenhausen air from the month of manufacture in those tires you should capture it like freon. and no im not serious

9 years? though it may not have been beaten by a human it has been b***h slap by mother nature...:D The wheel(in the pic) looks like it needs refurbishment, suspension items will need to be replaced as well...not just shocks and struts either(bushings too). You have your work cut out for you my friend...

seems to appear to be overspray on the oil lines and spring plate cover in the wheel well pic - any hopes of originality in that regard are probably moot

who cares about the tires or paint - it's a cool car being non-sunroof / cloth...

um, yeah... that one would require docs to believe which charted the miles over time, registration / emissions confirmations, etc.

These odo's are tooooo easy to unplug / swap, and all too commonly have their gears turn to dust, sooooooooooo...

The car was last registered in 1992-93.......so I am going to be inclined to believe the mileage/ Not to mention the fact that the car is unmolested. The overspray as you are pointing out (or what appears to be overspray) could have been from the federalization of the car.....Regardless. Yes the car will need a complete resto top to bottom for concours events. This would be a very good driver with a little work.

So replacing old, worn tires is "molesting" your car? I learn something new every day. If I saw a car with tires like that, my concern would be that it was neglected.

I think from 1977 they were all 16x8 rear, 16x7 front, ?

IS it a Matching Numbers car have you checked?

I think '77 cars were 15" rims, no?
This car is a nice potential project for somebody, if the price is right.

Original tires would bolster the mileage claim.

Given the condition of what's in the picture and how common odometer fraud seems to be with Porsches of a certain vintage (i.e. those that are not so old that no one gives a **** about mileage anymore), the mileage claim seems dubious.
