930 will not stay running.
I have an 81 930 that will turn over but will not stay running. It cranks then quites, cranks then quites. It will run about 3 seconds. What do I need to do to fix it.

It has gas and the pumps sound like they work

It is a little difficult to tell without more information, but I had similar symptoms. Mine would start, then die in about 3 seconds. I found that if I held the metering plate down, it would continue running. I then got a pressure gauge to measure the cold control pressure. This show WAY high. I took the Warm Up Regulator (WUR) out and disassembled and cleaned it. I then measured the cold control pressure. It measured 1.5 BAR at 50 degrees F. This was within the range for my motor. I then started the car and it continued running.
Not well, but I have narrowed that down to a vacuum leak. New hose comes in tomorrow. Good luck. |
+1 on the metering plate free travel checking... sometimes it gets gummed up creating those symptoms.

pushing down on the sensor plate adds more fuel to richen the mixture. if the cold CP is too hi doing this will help to show that if you dont have gauges.
the inlet screen to the WUR can get dirty and clogged raising the control pressure. could also be an air leak, which leans it out and once again pushing down on the sensor plate will help keep it running. i know it was said, but out of gas WILL do the same thing. you would not be the first to troubleshoot a non running car that is out of gas.....and looking in the tank can be deceiving. |
