Hello All....Intoduction 930 Slant Nose
Hello All,
Here is my new (to me!) 1982 Porsche Slant Nose that appears to be original. * Need help why some early slant nosesīs dont have the "slats" in the front panel. I took the car for a spin and it was running great. Suddenly the power does not want to be consistent and its running intermitent specially above 3,500 rpms. Reading a couple of posts it may be the WG? help please! Also, what up-grades to you recommend to make it more reliable and streetable. I want to keep this care for some years. Plan on keeping any original part as well for if I want to make it "stock" again.- http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1416408475.jpg |
Welcome...beautiful looking car. Yours may be a Special Wishes car done by the factory. The early ones did not have the slats on the front fenders. On your intermittent problem..check all the simple things first...i.e. Grounding, coil wires, plugs, coils, connection, and sit with a cup of coffee and read this sticky http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/547032-sticky-common-answers-why-my-car-doesnt-start.html
Is the car fully stock? If so regular bolt ons, like exhaust and muffler. Go out and enjoy it the way it is now, once your small issue has been resolved then plan out your upgrades. I always say to start out with the suspension first then move on to extra power. Elephant Racing and Rebel Racing offer mild to wild suspension upgrades. By the way...more pics when you get a chance;) |
Nice looking car. I like it with out slats. People here will be about to help you out for sure.
These guys can tell you if it's a factory slant for sure. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/447083-slantnose-slant-nose-slope-m505-factory-930s-documents-registry-ultimate-flachbau.html |
Beautiful car, I love the color. Welcome to the forum. As far as you running issues, I'll defer to someone else.
|
Looks sweet. My opinion you must install an AFR gauge on these cars, is the only way to know where you are rich/lean wise. Yes you can get a CIS pressure gauge also for dialing in your car but that is much less fun.

NICE!
Like the color and the lines, it is very clean looking. Running intermittant can mean a lot of things. If you can be more specific we may be able to help. |
Welcome! Nice looking 930. If the car is new to you start with a basic tune-up and have your fuel pressures checked. I'm sure you will be doing a lot of "checking".
Best of luck, Rahl |
Very cool color and welcome. It may be worth it to take it to an air cooled specialist with a second set of eyes to give it a once over. I'm not sure how you bought the car or if a PPI was done. I don't consider myself an expert by any means and thought my PPI plus initial once over gave good piece of mind. It also helped me plan for future maintenance/upgrades.
Beautiful car. Enjoy! |
Nice car and welcome to the forum!
I'm not a fan of slants... but, it looks better w/o the slats = cleaner look. BTW, lower it some will improve handling and stance. |
boy, are you in for it...
...first and foremost, sweet ride...muy dulce...
and second, as a mechanical moron upon first joining pelican, I completely relate to your dilemma...I have asked the same question in the past, being as specific as my lack of knowledge and nomenclature would allow, and was responded to with the same requests for even more specifics...huh??? ...you'll get it with time, and every little idiosyncracy you become familiar with that's "special" to your car... ...so for your running woes, look for loose connections, cracks in hoses, lifting plug wires, wiggly rotor cap, slipping silicone hoses and couplers, and maybe clean up and open up your fuel pump relays a tad...doesn't cost a dime, and does solve the problem fairly often...check, clean, and secure your grounds too... ...if one of these turns out to be the culprit, you'll feel like the king of the world...if not, there's so many helpful pelicans here willing to help, it shouldn't take long... good luckl!!! |
been meaning to reply, keep getting jammed up (not the way Ronnie gets jammed "up")
echoing the previous sentiments - great color... looks like PTS regarding the running condition, ^Aaron^ makes a good point - however, with a few prodding questions, we can help you help us 8-) describe what you mean by "running intermittently esp above 3,500" meaning - violent cut-out of power? (face hits windshield) - sputter (misfire - a cylinder or more dropping out) - flat power or lack of power If it were me, I'd pull the distributor cap and check / clean the contacts on the cap / rotor, ensure both ends of all spark plug wires and coil wire are fully seated - and go for a ride. If not that, spray some carb cleaner or brake clean around all intake seams and see if idle raises. If not those - report back 8-). Diagnosis gets a bit more complex from there, but you're in good hands here... Good luck, awesome car, and welcome to the insanity... |
Congratulations on the new acquisition. I also recently joined the 930 & Special Wishes Slantnose community. These cars are beautiful and I do not get tired of looking at them every day I drive in or out of my garage. Enjoy it!

Nice slant! I've never seen that front valence before. Do you have an oil cooler mounted behind the valence?
Mine is a 1983 and also has the non-slatted fenders. I never liked the looks of slant noses until I saw one without the slats. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418064031.jpg |
Alan Johnson Racing San Diego, had access to Porsche Motorsports parts and built more than a few. My 79 930 CA special 930S built in 82-83 by them had the non vented early factory fenders. Probably left over from when special wishes went to vented ones. I like the looks too. Back then it was update the one you had or go without as ordering a new one, special wishes or standard body, was not easy until 86- 87 respectively.

Nice 82. Was unaware of unslatted fenders. I understand that the more original the better the value. Mine is almost entirely stock though it is not a factory slantnose. Delivery was taken in Germany then the original owner had it modified there and shipped into Arizona. Always been in the desert. Good luck with your 930 journey.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418096450.jpg
