Would Appreciate opinion on my 1981 turbo

Before I put on the bottom trim should I put the black stone guard on the rear flares or leave it as is?

If the car were mine, I would put the black stone guards (shark fins) on as I think it looks incomplete without them.

Hey Van - awesome car.

3rd for the guards - only way IMO it ever looks right w/o them is if it has the full 965 treatment

not to mention, them bulbously purty fenders will surrrrrrrrely take a significant knackering back there sans...

I've all ways been for the stone guards, but, take a look at this early Copper-Brown '79 930 that was delivered without them from the factory. Differences between it and your '81 are Black center Fuchs and Rocker Trim vs. your BBS wheels and Body Color Rocker Trim. I think the '79 looks great trimmed the way it is in that color.

Definitely use them for looks and protection. I went the 965 route and have significant paint chipping without them. Sticky tires make it worse. Sharp looking car.

Just a thought... But I have magnetic stone guards so I can add/remove them whenever I want. I think they were around $60. From about 5 feet it is hard to tell they aren't the originals. I like that I can remove them when I want because honestly I like my car with and without them. I seem to go back and forth a lot. If you're like me at all you may want to consider picking up a set so you can do the same!

I got them from Magnagrafik: https://magnagrafik.com/Default.aspx

Like I said - something to consider.

Very nice car by the way!

- Chris.

I can go either with or without. Since the rest of the body appears stock I'm thinking with.

Another option would be clear stone guards made out of the clear bra material.

Just looked at those and they look very good and cost less than original stick on shark fins.
If you ever wanted to remove the rear torsion bars then these are the way to go because you would have to cut the original shark fins to remove the cover and pull out the torsion bars.

If you drive the car without the sharkfins the paint will be chipped badly in a short time but if all you do is look at the car then you can go without them.

My browser says they're on page 25 of the PDF catalog.

You're definitely right.... I had mine off recently and drove the car maybe 20 miles on the highway to Cars n Coffee - In that short span of highway I put three new rock chips on my right rear fender.

I tend to leave mine on most of the time. However- I pull them off when I was the car and clean underneath them.

I've been thinking about clear-bra for that area.

Anyone have the part number for the original ones? Mine got knackered when I did my suspension last year and I really should get new ones. What are they called?

Yes, I have a set that I will be using as patterns to cut clear bra material.

They are called stone shields
