Turbo Interior Trim Spec and Color Code
Hi everyone, I just bought a 1980 930 that was modified to make it look like a 964 (the car has been re sprayed black) and I am busy restoring the car to original. I managed to get the original specs from Porsche and the color spec on the car was 9999 which means 'color to sample' and the interior spec code says 97 which was an internal dealer ordering code in Germany at the time (1980).
![]() Two questions: 1 - should I scratch the paint to the body and get an indication of the original color (manage to get an idea inside the fenders and it looks like a maroon to me) and try and match that or should I leave it black? ![]() 2- can anyone tell me what the 97 interior trim code means? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Even with paint to sample - there should be a paint code data plate in the frunk on the left side down by the gas tank. Honestly the color looks like it could be Garnet Red or something similar. My car is a "L999' as well but the data plate is there.
Also the 97 code just denotes special order interior. You could send off the vin to Porsche for a COA and see if they can provide the original specs. My car was a 97 interior code and was special order cashmere on black two tone. I will pull my COA because I think it didn't show much about the interior, but it did denote the original color.

Sienna Metallic. 436-9-3. Look it up and you'll agree.

Although the more I look at it the more I lean towards Rubinrot Metallic...

After some research you are probably right kenikh, Rubinrot only came out in the very early day (60's) and then in 1982 to 1984. Sienna Metallic came out around 1978 and 1979. My car being a 1980 it is pretty much a given. Would a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity give the exact color?

Again - go check the data plate in the frunk on the floor left side by the gas tank. It will have the color listed there.

Sienna Metallic is the same as Sahara Diamond Metallic, which was a standard color in 76. Why Porsche changed the name and not the paint code is lost to history.
The COA will not tell you what special order color your car is for these cars. It should, but doesn't.

Is there no paint code tag under the carpeting on the passenger side wall in the luggage compartment? I am pretty sure that Porsche stuck the paint code tag there at least as far back as 1981. It may be that Porsche stuck it on the engine bay latch panel in 1980. I have seen one SC that had the tag there. If that is where the paint code tags was placed originally on your car, then the shop that painted the car probably removed the tag. Which would illustrate why Porsche moved it to the less likely to be damaged or repainted inner panel in the luggage compartment.

Interior code 97 is white, IIRC.

kenikh, Porsche Germany came back to me and they said the 97 was indeed White! Waiting for them to digitize pre 1984 info and hopefully the color will come from there.

No kidding. Wish my interior code was 97 instead of 88.

It would be awesome if the exterior color was confirmed to be Sienna Metallic but I need to wait for Porsche to come back with the info and I don't know how long they will take...should I just go for Sienna Metallic or wait?

Dude, that car is Sienna Metallic/Sahara Diamond. There was no other color up until 1980 that even came close.

Where on the car was that picture taken? I can take a similar picture of the same area of my Sienna Metallic '77 911S for reference.
Funny that on my dealer window sticker the color is listed as "Burgandy Metallic." Last edited by 77Targa0912; 02-24-2015 at 03:25 PM.. |
