Wondering, is there precedent in classic car land for period mods being desirable? I'm sure there were tons of mods done when the 356 was being raced and driven, for example better cooling, twin plug, upgrade to c-disk brakes, different mirrors, etc. Did the market decide to "restore" all of those lovely cars back to stock? I've seen fast 356 at the races and those owners don't seem to mind all sorts of extremely fine customization (and some extremely ugly stuff too.)
Is there a precedent for an early factory hot rod being valued above a normal car? For this to even be a question there must be a whole world of money with no sense. This is a faster better car with period upgrades and documented history - from otaku-japan no less! With our 20:20 hindsite it appears that whoever ordered this car had some serious taste back in the day (err, except for the stickers?) Why shouldn't that be more desirable than one of the other 8 un-modded M148? Are the buyers institutions, index funds or something? If an actual human is interested in the car they should be ecstatic with those changes. Who wouldn't buy this car because of period ruf mods? PS: Not like I'm qualified to value anything but I personally desire this car more than an m148 slant and of course the ruf mods are a plus. |
The answer is very simple, anyone interested in purchasing your car for investment purposes is not interested in driving it. It doesn't even need to run, just look good and have the right option codes.

Definitely return to stock and box that junk up.
Stock is only way to go and start boxing that aftermarket stuff up (cArefully pls and use plenty of padding) and I'll send a courier by so u don't have to think about it. Lmk if u need help removing and boxing them up. LoL.

...I was finally able to make my mind....I will keep it as is as it looks mean and much better than the stock car, I have also stopped thinking about the selling and the value of the car. I will get rid of something else before I touch this gem...that is the way to go. I donīt know why, but I like cars which I donīt have to care too much, I mean paint etc. hard driving is the thing for me.

^^^ It's great to see another non-q-tipper with good sense regarding the intent, purpose and spirit of these machines. :)

BULL****. Well done R Gruppe hot rods with period performance upgrades have proven over and over that early cars that a well done hot rod is every bit as valuable as any meticulously restored car. Same with 356 Outlaws. Even more valuable. The 930 collector market is immature and will get there. Everyone spending time going back to original are chasing today's market, but ignoring the future.

Geeze - thats just like mine!
I am collecting all parts to return to stock/original one day, but in the meantime enjoying the lightness of the RUF parts and the style! - Hardest parts to source are the fenders and valence valences - Fuchs are near impossible - best bet is replica parts for a lot of stuff and it is only going to get harder! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1440419651.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1440419700.jpg |
