1976 930 cam cover access, what all do I need to remove?

My '76 930, completely stock, has some chain noise coming from the tensioner area. I think one of the tensioners may be collapsing.

I want to remove the cam covers to check them out. It was a breeze on my '73.5 911T, but this is a whole different beast!

To remove the engine tin to get at them, what all needs to be removed.

1. Both charge downpipes?
2. Turbo itself?
3. Rear bumper?
4. Muffler?

Thanks for your help saving time.

Muffler, (rear bumper would make it easier but not an absolute must), charge pipe, turbo would help.

You may also want to sag the motor down a touch so the tin comes off easier around the chain cover. Once you get the muffler off you will see much clearer on what else may need to come with it for access. Much easier on passenger side.

Good luck!

All the stuff you mentioned and if you have AC the compressor mount comes off too.

Thanks guys. Got everything off this morning except the #)#($@*$# left side inlet charge pipe! Got the rubber hoses off, tried twisting it clockwise and counterclockwise but no luck. Does it come out the top or bottom? Any tricks?

It's kinda like one of these - seems like it won't come out ... then suddenly it does. keep working at it.
