new engine build
Hi guy's
A while ago I got my hands on a 91 3.3 engine. So I want to build strong hp engine. Looking for at least 700 whp. I will take my time for this build as there is no hurry finishing this. I can not do this alone so all help would be very welcome. First part is the engine block itself, so as stated before it's a 1991 3.3 engine stock and never been open. Cylinders and heads will come off first... do I need another oil pump or will I be fine? Are there any other internal parts that need to upgrade? Will start in two weeks from now. Thanks ![]() Last edited by klefroid; 07-25-2015 at 11:37 AM.. |

700whp is a big goal. I would ask yourself the following: how long do you want the motor to make that power and how much are you willing to spend.
To be honest; with that goal you're going to need: EFI, twin plugged/ported heads, forged rotating assembly at the very least. You might give consideration to a 74.4 stroker crank from the 964 variant or a 996GT3 with appropriate rods. I would give consideration to billet cylinders if you want the motor to hold up reliably. You'll need to think about induction; the 3.2 carrera intake is likely needed and an appropriately sized intercooler to manage the heat. You'll need a good header setup and realistically a 67mm turbo. Fuel system you'll want EFI as I mentioned above with injectors sized appropriately. If you're talking race gas then you could run a 1000cc injector like a ID1000. If you're talking E85 or a race blend of E90 and MS109 (true race E85) then you're talking 2000cc injectors. Either way you cut it I would expect to spend north of $25K to make that power. If you go for the parts I noted above I would expect north of $30K. Enjoy! That's a big, but attainable, goal! Chris

I gonna take my time, if it's two years that's not a problem. It has to be a strong engine that does hold up that power. one that fires up each time.better to do it right from the first time so I'm willing to spend more if needed. That's why I'll start talking about the engine internally or it will become to much for me. So it would be great to hear more about the crank and oil pump. Oil pump - you can use the stock unit as it is very good. You could go buy a newer turbo oil pump but the one in your 3.3L case is more than sufficient. When I started down my build path I was planning to run a 993 RSR crank (which I have and plan to sell) but changed my mind and went for the 996 GT3 crank instead. Either crank has the 76.4mm stroke to give you a 3.5L when you pair with a 98mm bore. The difference is whether you want to run a shelf rod or a custom rod. The 993 RSR crank will allow you to run a stock 3.3L rod; the 996 GT3 crank won't. Also there is a cost differential. Also plan for cylinder studs; I'd look at Supertec or ARP. I personally am running all ARP in the motor everywhere... Silly yes; but I am already pretty deep into the build so I am spending a little more. Hope that is helpful. Chris.
