California CARB requirements for 79 930

I have a potential buyer for a 1979 930 that lives in California, car originally a cali car. My understanding that getting these smogged requires some sort of physical inspection. I read anecdotes that inspections are not rigorous but having never gone though this myself I don't know - any guidance? My car has a euro heat exchangers with euro muffler- air injection system has been removed but could be re-installed. I have stock exhaust but it would take a little bit if work to re-install.

Visual inspection means all smog stuff needs to be in place, including the air injection system. Also the motor needs to look stock for that year. The Euro exhaust should pass. Mine use to pass (last one in '09) with SSI's & DP muffler. Probably worth checking with a CA P mechanic for current rules. I would check with a mechanic in the area where the customer lives, as the rules are different in different counties. I use to take mine to Jerry Woods, they would adjust the CO and take it to the smog station.

I think you will also probably need the stock air box too but double check that. The tech does not want to see any that that looks aftermarket or missing on the car. If the buyer takes all of his cars to the same smog check station and has a "relationship" with the tech... sometimes their eyesight is not so good. As long as the tailpipe reading is clean the car may pass.

Dealing with that BS here in CO.. have to get a state inspection since I don't have the original EPA papers that it was imported with to prove it was imported properly. So I have to add a cat and air pump. Going to add a cat and stock exhaust going to skip the air pump on my first trip since I don't have one and hopefully I can get away with that. Silly thing is they will test it the exact same way they test US spec cars with the sniffer tubes in the exhaust pipes but have to jump through hoops first.

Technically, smog pump has to be hooked up and running, too. I once had a guy break out a mirror on a telescopic stick and check for that. Again, depends on the tech.

In which county does your buyer live? There are 6 rural counties in CA where smog is not required.
