This car is in Washington! What's your location?

I'm in Bonney Lake.

Crikey, you live right by Chris Nielsen. You must've run into each other. I'm in Sammamish.

Unoffcial Final Pricelist
I'm almost embarrassed to post but here's the unofficial nearly final price for the project for anyone else contemplating a turbo. This is all new stuff though, obviously it could be done cheaper if used parts were involved.
Also, I already had programmable EFI and Carrera manifolds so I didn't need to modify anything from a stock perspective. .http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1443477224.jpg |

Zork Tube
As my turbo project nears the end of the install phase, I recently received the Zork tube from Brian at RarlyL8.
I felt compelled to comment on it. While $300 seems steep (to me) for a stainless-steel bent tube that is only about 18 inches long, I did find myself examining the beauty of its welds and tightness of it adjustable slip-fit construction. I must have been staring at it for about 10 minutes. 10 minutes! It's a zork tube! I can only imagine what Brian's headers look like in person. Well done, Brian. It's a piece of art for something so seemingly simple. Anyway, progress is being made. The hardest part so far is getting the damn vacuum/boost hose connections sorted. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1444670837.jpg |
I'll add to the above by saying that I have a Zork from another manufacturer. In terms of quality, there is no comparison: The Rarlyl8 Zork is light years beyond mine in terms of flexibility, quality and fit and finish.

Zork tube and O2 sensor installed.
Remaining items: -Turbo support bracket/mount modification -Awaiting boost/vacuum hose connectors to arrive. -Tuning Getting close. I'm just waiting for the boost hose connections to get here and I can connect the remaining hoses up: Boost gauge, Wastegate pressure side, BOV pressure and vacuum. Here's what the bottom side looks like so far: (Some are blurry, I need to take it outside in the daylight for better pics) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1444838977.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1444839023.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1444839065.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1444839096.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1444839119.jpg |
OH HELL YES.
I've been driving my car since yesterday and the Zork is just too good. I really hope my neighbors don't complain today about me firing it up at 6AM. :P |
Thats awesome :-)

Just found this thread. Subscribing and looking forward to seeing the startup. That should be a fun and very fast car when you are done.

Yeah, we need to see this car on an upcoming Saturday morning.

Prior to the turbo conversion, I was running headers into two (1 on each side config) 8" long glass-packs with the shorty megaphone extensions. It was loud but it sounded so good at cruise and WOT I couldn't quit... I'm sure it was annoying to most but it generally got the thumbs up and stares wherever I went. Before the glass-packs I ran it open (headers to megaphones) and I did get a ticket in Bonney Lake while WOT up HWY 410. The cop followed me up to the Jersey Mikes and asked "What do you have in that thing?!" as he sort of chuckled. "I have to give you a ticket though. It's just too loud. I could hear you even when you disappeared over the hill." I eventually paid the $20 court fee after I told them I put the muffler back on. (Glass-packs). Haven't got a ticket since even with State Patrol around me. When I did the test fire at idle (with this turbo configuration and without the Zork) it was noticeably quieter then the megaphone setup so I think I'm at least going in the right direction. I'd say, enjoy the zork! I can't wait to hear it at WOT myself. |
A turbo is the highest performance muffler available. :)

Boost Hose connections
As I wait for one last boost hose connector, I started preparing and making what final hose connections I could.
I needed a 3/4" connection for the AAR and I wanted to avoid tapping into the intercooler so I needed a different solution. A few places had a connector that would tap into the boost side of the hose, but I could only find smaller 6mm sizes. A place in the UK had my answer: Self Seal Take off<br>for Silicone hoses from Viper Performance This is their 3/4" size: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445360767.jpg A few more pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445360829.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445360859.jpg I didn't want too many connections on the intake hoses themselves, so I got a vacuum/boost block from a Ford Mustang application: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445360967.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445360988.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445361009.jpg In addition to the 3/4" connector, I had to order one of their 8mm sizes (this is what I'm waiting on) to fit the hose coming off the waste-gate. I'll use this 8mm connector to feed the boost block, then feed the waste-gate boost signal as well as the turbo gauge and BOV boost side signal. More to come...hopefully the tuning part. |
Very nice work. That is a clean and professional looking installation.

Begin Tuning Phase
Kind of a lame video, but I was so excited to see the boost needle move I had to take a video of it.
I was going past my house on the 25mph street so I couldn't really stomp on it too hard. I got it up to around 4000-4500rpm at the most. You could really feel it take off! I did some quick tuning to get the AFR's in a reasonable range but I have more to do. Besides being on a residential street, I didn't want to redline anything quite yet until I can see what the AFR's are doing via a trendlog from the Megasquirt software. https://youtu.be/KXMtAbF1oV4 This was the connection I was waiting on: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445739772.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445739804.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445739823.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445739844.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445739865.jpg |
.5 BAR is going to be perfect for this car. With some tuning, you should be able to sneak it up a bit. Remind me, did you twin plug it?
We have a nice quorum of turbo owners up here. Worth a meet up at some point. |
BTW, isn't a Zork immaculate sounding?
