That's a sign of yer advancing age, Matt!

Sure is cool how the car was not banished to a life of no-use, garage queen status. The next owner will probably disrespect it in that manner, though.

Actually is a salmon color(factory color)..very copper in person...really stunning. Interior will be white...as per the original factory combination.

What is a US prototype? A prototype is pre production. The car in question is a 76, which means it was a year after the 75. It may be a very early US 76 but what makes it a prototype. We have the same oxygen as in Germany so why would they have to make a prototype for the US only? Can this just be great marketing to increase the value of the car? Im not trying to be s smart arse, just curious what makes it so.

It seems cool to own a car with a history like that being a pre-production car for US Homologation. With that to say - I'm just happy to own a 930 at all since these cars are exceedingly rare on the roads today. Cool stuff!

Ugh, I just stopped myself from responding to all the idiotic replies on that article.

I don't know weather or not it should be called a prototype vs an early production model, but I have a book that was delivered to early orderers of the 76 U.S. 930. Rumor was that production was delayed and the factory had this book made and delivered to keep buyers interested. Perhaps the two test/press cars discussed were delivered as part of the same strategy.

The car is not mine it's at the shop that I frequent. As the guys were taking it apart, they found a few parts that were not production items found on the 76. Maybe the fog lights are one of those items...not really sure though.

76 US VIN's 1-10 would have been crash tested I believe. 11-14 were built as preproduction cars and were used for EPA testing and Journalist introductions- to call it a prototype seems misleading- 930 were already in production as ROW cars as others have pointed out. I have a friend that owns 79 VIN 0011 and he has a letter from Porsche stating it was first 79 911 sold in US no mention of "prototype".

The car was a demonstrator for the press and a test mule for US emissions equipment. It was not a prototype. As others have pointed out, the 930 had been in production for a year, when this car came to the USA. I believe that Steve Earle, the founder of the Monterey Historics, drove it for years as his personal car.

I think that you can find the car in one of Rasmussen's books, "Porsches for the Road," or something like that.

That said, this is a very cool car.

I hope he gets above the expected. Funny thing is when the Salmon color 75 was first sold to the current owner I thought the price was nuts, then he decided to give it a full restoration which really put the total value in the clouds. If the car that the op goes at or above $400k, then the owner of the Salmon 75 did very well for himself and I'm the one that was nuts..lol

The ‘75 930 is a unique car, it is the first production year of the “911 Turbo” of which only 284 were produced. This car, however, is in a class of its own being 1 of 15 RHD configurations and 1 of 1 ordered in the Salmon Metallic color. During its life this '75 went through a few modifications including having the color changed from Salmon metallic to Gun Metal Grey. Restoration work has begun and this car will be returning to its factory specifications. Visit the bottom of linked page for additional images

Chuck sold that car a few years ago- he knew what he had but I'm sure he would like to have that one back, sold almost instantly.
