Coming to end of 2 yr restoration - lots of unanswered ???
I have an early Peter Dawe built 3.4 liter turbo in my 79 T. Anyone have understanding of what was used inside to build these motors? Unfortunately the history died with OO.
3.4 liter, headers / hi flow muffler Bosch RSR TwinPlug dizzy Aero lite copper top plugs ( 2 different sizes) //yup that's what's in there Headers and free flow exhaust 1.2-1.4 bar WG spring in OEM WG. K27 7006 turbo Fabspeed 900 cic intercooler with diverter valve Had Shortneck Garretson with BYPASS valve delete ?? Strange All early emission stuff removed Updated Carrera can tensioners AC delete Hi flow air filter ( removed factory air box) I am told it has cams, crank rods and Pistons. But no idea what exactly. Plan is get the car back to dawesmotorspirts for a CIS /timing adjustment. Maybe even get a dyno pull or two. From what I have been reading - if what others get from 1 bar 3.3 turbos, I would think this 3.4 cammed big turbo/ IC with 1.2-1.4 bar spring should make ~375 whp?? |

Hopefully Peter can give you the answers you seek. Maybe he will have some paperwork on what was done. 1.2-1.4 bar is pretty high. With 1 bar you should have no problem achieving 375whp safely.

Contact Peter or Trevor at Dawe's Motorsport in Pennsylvania.
I'm sure if they have any records or can remember anything about that specific motor/car they'll answer any questions you might have. |

I appreciate the suggestions - but I managed to come up with that one in my own
![]() ![]() I have reached out a few times and have requested an appointment to bring the car out for a tune . PCA events just started up and they are pretty busy, but I do expect to get out there soon. In the interim I was hoping to connect with others who have had experience with a similar motor |

What is it that you are looking for?
No one in this forum is going to know what piston, rods or any other item that was used on your car other than the builder or the previous owner...but you knew that already. I have a similar build...using EFI. I had an .8 bar(now running a .9 bar) and we were able to achieve 410 whp. Every build..even if identical will probably have different results. If you are planning to dyno the car...your motor needs to be in a healthy state. So a leak down and compression test is a must or you run the chance of making a good day, really bad real fast. Do you know what modifications were done for fueling? At 1.2-1.4bar on cis, things can get lean pretty quick. I'm no expert, and I'm sure there are plenty of guys here with a lot more experience in this area then me. May I suggest you take a few photos of your motor showing the goods. This way we have a visual of the subject in hand.

Anyway- it is a pretty interesting story...
[QUOTE=speednme1;9112255]What is it that you are looking for?
QUOTE] I was hoping there might be another owner out there with a Dawe 3.4 from the late 80's that might be the OO who commissioned his build and hear from him about his car and his project. I understand all that above, and truly appreciate you pointing it out. The dyno is the least important...the purpose is to adjust the CIS at WOT and be able to check the fuel. I am always careful- cause I know what I don't know....and reading a few CIS primers does not equip me in any way... The fuel heads and WUR were rebuilt at the beginning of this project to get the car running. that was job one after it sitting for 8 yrs.. If you search my threads there are countless pictures of the car, the motor, and the project. From the outside it looks just like any other 3.3l turbo with a k27 and Bosch twin plug. So here is some back story...When I eventually dropped the motor and trans, I noticed on the cases that the OO name is painted on them...the name matched the service records. Service records were from Prestige in Nanuet. ( dealer was sold to Paul Miller many years ago- and all dealer records from the 80's-90's are gone )....Coincidentally I have some old buddies who are 30yr plus Porsche tech veterans who happened to have worked at Prestige Porsche in Nanuet NY back in the day/ as well as be involved in IMSA/ SCCA/ Porsche racing and Porsche Historic racing...these guys have seen a lot in there day when it comes to the old birds-and naturally are friends of Peter (more to that later- but I saw many pictures of these guys together) so get this... this was the same dealer that originally sold and serviced the car according to the receipts I have that came in the glove box. So naturally I asked them to check the car out when I got it home. They immediately identified the car as a Peter Dawe car by certain tell tale signs. I had no idea. I immediately reached out to Peter and confirmed this to be true and found that the OO in fact commissioned the build and this is the same motor/ same car. Crazy.....I bought what I thought was a slightly modified one owner car that sat around for a long time after the OO died in 2002. Who woulda thunk this all started 10 miles from my house 35 years ago and with my buddies knowing the car. So what Peter told me when I first contacted him a couple months back : "Hi Erik I can’t believe Steven’s 930 surfaced again. It was a great early 3.4 project and the car was pretty quick for it’s day. I think the car also has a short ring and pinion or 935 gears in the trans. Car also had a fred garratson intercooler on it at one time. I’ll look for one for you. Let me know if I can help. Peter Dawe" I was stoked that he remembered the car. He continues to be responsive and when there is an open window I will get out there. After 2 years of restoring the car, I am not in a world of hurry, however anxious...... Anyway- thought this might be an interesting thread. Certainly not looking for arguments or to be PIA. I will post updated pics this week as I am buttoning up the motor today after working on alternator. |

Great story! Peter and his sons(and team) are great at what they do. Always there to offer help. Unfortunately this is their busy racing season. I will be going to the shop soon, once I'm clear to drive again. If you want, I can contact you before I go and we could meet at the shop. You would love the rare toys that frequent his shop. Oh and on being anxious...I don't blame you one bit...I would be the same way in your shoes

Is this a modified 3.3L turbo, or a 3.2L with a turbo/intercooler, etc.
My guess is a 3.3L bumped up to 3.4, with much larger turbo, etc should be making much greater than 375hp.
