Yes it did...I guess he put most of the stock parts on. Who says a car with a repaint is value a lot less than original paint ..lol...and he left some of the mods on. Excellent sell!
Back to original special wishes color

I have to admit, it was a good looking car in person, perfect to park next to your candy colored lambo.

Nice story about an ultra rare and very desirable color. I guess "resale red" has run it's course, ha! I did the same thing years ago, how time changes your perspective.

Yes, like I've mentioned in the Marketplace forum, it seems that as men age, they prefer their cars (at least their Porsches) to be painted in colors that they are most familiar with - puke, piss and shart!

Too bad mine wasn't mocha brown. That would really sell to the old crowd.

I love the car, I love the color......But is a restored 3.3l car which obviously has at least minor mods really worth 200+k in general? The interior looks nice but certainly not mint as we see in some of the other crazy high priced cars.

A few people thought is was or it would have sold for a lot less. 1 of 1 anything is huge in collector cars. When it happens to be a rare color; Cha Ching. I'm sure a concourse restoration is in that cars near future with a 3-5 year sale price near $350k-$400k. If the economy is still moving forward then.

PTS 1979 930 Sold $214,000 Russo and Steele

The year 1979 has always done well at auction. The highest sale price of a 930 at auction was a blue/blue 1979 930 it's sold for close to $300,000 at auction. I believe if you put two identical 930s through the same auction but one being a 1977 and one being a 1978/1979 the bids would be closer than you would think.

Also you can't lump early 3.3 turbos with 1980 930s and up as they are entirely different handling car with light switch boost delivery along with other things.

This was noted in car magazines. Car & Driver 1986 test article about the return of the 930 stated this more than a few times in the article. They ended the article stating that gone was the outrageous behavior of the early 3.3 the new 930 had grown up.

PTS 1979 930 Sold $214,000 Russo and Steele

The year 1982 was the year the 930s handling characteristics were changed to more neutral handling.

Boost delivery was gradually addressed through the early 80s by 1985 it was far more smooth/seamless delivery much different than the on/off boost delivery of the 1975/79 930.

^^^

So people pay more for a much worse car - brilliant on their parts!

But much of what you are quoting from R&T is simply wrong, so there is that.

Did this car actually sell for that price?
I can see it if you took $100K off that price.
All USA 3.3L 1978-1988 drive pretty much the same. Same engine and tranny, only difference is a few CIS smog and exhaust tweaks. Magazine is full of $hit.
