Kevin, the sounds you hear while driving are usually very misleading with regard to their location, and "usually" a thunk sound over bumps is something to do with the rear anti-roll bar - maybe one of the bolts from a drop link is missing and allowing the bar to hit the underside of the tub when it moves, or possibly one of the bar mounts has pulled away (broken off) from the underside of the tub (both are common problems) - check that out first.

I got her on the hoist and i am findind everything is in tact, the only thing that is loose is the esentric that sets ride height, but it would seem that once the car has a load that should be tight.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ab1a6235fa.jpg

On the front, check the bolt at the top where the strut mounts to the fender, if tight, check underneath the cover that the shock insert itself is tight in the strut housing.
|
Thanks,i will do that.

Side bar but the underside of your car is ridiculously clean. I just wanted to note that observation.
Well done! Chris. |
Check the jack in the front of the car and see if the rubber strap is still holding it snug in place.
The bottom of your car is cleaner than new! There's a roll pin in the bottom part of Bilstein struts that holds the end of the insert in place. Maybe it's gone wrong but everything under there looks so nice... |
also check the sway bar drop links with the car on the ground. check for play, if they move , I would tighten one of the drop links to take up some the play, those hime joints sometimes make a clunking noise, that's what happen to me

Is your battery hold-down secure?
|
Battery is tight, roll pin is in on the bottom of the strut, the two 8mm bolts that go through the thick bracket that sit ontop of the strut tower were somewhat loose.I tightenedbthem and took her home, but that did not solve the thunk.I am back at the shop putting her back on the ho ist to see if i missed anything.Heliops2 i am checkin that now. Thanks guys/gals for all the help. Its only clean under there because all the grime is on my arms and face.HaHa

kevin,
Check the bushings where the front antiroll bar penetrates the front inner fender. If there is excess clearance with the bar, it will make a clanking noise. |
How old are the front A-Arm bushings?
|
One other thing to check is the rear sway bar mount to the chaises, I had the same setup on my old yellow 911gt , the weld broke on the rear mount... I also had the front sway bar break, you can see it from the frunk near the fuel tank...
|
Check to make sure the shock insert bushing in the strut isn't worn out. That'll give you movement that knocks...
|
I'll second the rear sway bar mount{s}, I broke mine on both sides within 2-3 months of owning the car. Sticky tires and hard driving will kill the wimpy rear sheet metal mounts. They start to crack then give up the ghost in short order.
Easy eyeball check, you don't even have to jack up the car. Mark |

Probably the jack loose and rattling around in the front right corner of the tub... it's real common. Rubber straps don't last forever.
I wonder if he checked that yet. I modified an old SC air cleaner housing rubber strap I had to hold mine snug in place. |
J man i took the jack out so i know its not that the rubber strap although its still there its almost torn in two.Mark my sway bar mount torn from the pan on dr-side i rewelded and seems my cruddy welds are holding.
