Do all 930 bumpers have paint burn-off from Turbo?
As you can see, my rear bumper paint has burned off (see right above where license plate is attached). While it's probably not original paint, it is definitely not some cheap paint job. When I touched that area the other day with the car running it was super hot from the turbo right behind it. Is this paint burn-off common? I want to get the bumper resprayed but if it will just do the same thing again then I won't bother. Should there be some heat shielding or something?

I would bet that your bumper heat-shield is missing.

There should be an OEM Heat Shield that attaches to your rear Bumper (930 505 511 02). .

Don't respray the bumper until you fix the problem. I've removed the heat shield from every turbo owned and ran a fiberglass bumper with no shield for over 10 years on one. Never had a problem with the bumper overheating to the point that paint was damaged. The issue is typically an occluded cat/muffler or timing off or fuel running lean/imbalanced. Check these things and see if it makes a difference.

Does anyone have a picture of this heat shield? If I'm going to spend $355, I need to know its not something I can easily fabricate from some exhaust shield material.

$355? Really? I throw them away. If your engine is in proper tune you don't need one, they are nothing but a gravel collector.

You are better off installing a radiant heat barrier material to the inside of the bumper. You need all the air circulation around the turbo you can get to help stop coking the oil in the turbo when the engine is shut down. But, I agree with Brian, something is wrong with the AFR, timing or cat (if installed) to have the exhaust so hot that it burning the paint. The bumper usually gets hot to touch, but not to the point of burning the paint. My car is white and if the bumper got scorched from heat it would show up easily.

Is that really the original Porsche heat shield? just looks like a piece of sheet metal. Not sure why its costing $355 from our host, other than it probably has to be shipped from Germany. I can certainly cut some exhaust shielding to look like that.
The car has always run fine. No overheating issues. After actually looking under the car I realized the burned area is really not where the turbo is, its more where the big exhaust barrel is and the oxygen sensor is actually closest to the bumper. As you can also see, I don't have stock heat exchangers and muffler (ignore the wrapping around that turbo oil container, it's been removed for a while). So maybe the muffler is closer to the bumper than the stock one? I see at least 2-3" of clearance between the bumper inside and the muffler, except where the oxygen sensor pokes out and almost touches the bumper.

I have the same muffler and the heat shield was installed and yes the paint is singed. I had originally had it wrapped and that stick on heat shielding on the inside of the heat shield. But it kept getting wet and the stick on stuff pealed off from the heat. After i removed the header wrap from the muffler the bumper started getting pretty hot. This time around it'l be just a zork tube that will be wrapped.

I thought about getting this for my car:

Yep that was similar to what I had. It pealed off after a while. I had it on the bottom of the engine tin in the back and in the inside of the heat shield. Not sure if it was the heat from the exhaust or the humidity or moisture from driving in the rain. but it didnt last long.
