Why so many D-bags on BaT?

They trash every car they see. They have no idea what they are saying. Let alone expertise.

Ok the straw that broke the camels back.. Some idiot commenting on the 77 turbo Carrera.

"The interiors on these are practically kit car quality"

I can't even respond to that. The G series 911 has the most robust high quality interior of any car ever made.

LOL. Come on, you cant be serious. The interiors in these cars while not 'kit car quality' are not far off. In all the 80s German cars I have owned, torn apart, I have never seen so many self taping screws used, directly into the sheet metal no less.

I own a 86 635CSi and the interior construction/fit/finish is simply light years ahead of the Porsche. A MK2 VW for that matter is better. Case in point, of the very few self tapping fasteners used on the BMW, all secure to a clip or if its a machine screw a captured nut clip.

Just my opinion.

These interiors are very rugged. Yes self tapping. Handmade.

LOL... Don't be such a hater.

This one was in a completely dry car stored in a dehumidified garage. Cracked me up.

I used to think the ergonomics were horrible and for larger people not so accommodating. I have and have had several 911's and it has grown on me. They are not as comfortable as the ats I drive but the cars are a lot of fun and it works. I can reach everything and the leather holds up well. Besides when you are driving like the car should be driven you forget there is interior.

"Kit care like" comment sounds like a narrow minded description to me.

At least they hold up better than BMW plastic interiors.

Mine looks exactly like that. It's no longer part of the car, but resides on a shelf tucked away.

That is good to hear. I thought my car was in a flood when I found that.
Like Tippy mine looks exactly the same and is in the Attic. I have no idea why I keep junk.

As for the leather.
You would have a hard time finding another 37 year old car with 82,000 miles on it with nicer all original leather and carpet. The headliner is the only thing that did not survive the test of time.

I bought my '79 off BAT. The running commentary during the auction was...interesting.

But my biggest problem, by far, was dealing with the douchenozzle who was the seller/flipper of the car. He misrepresented some things and outright lied about others. Oh, and he never bothered to title the car (which is explicitly against the BAT rules) so I had to wait until that was done before I arranged shipping, etc. And then there's the 5% commish I had to pay to BAT...

Your wild exaggerations about the god-like quality of the interiors is just as nonsensical as the "kit car quality" comments made on BAT.

People have already pointed out Porsche's use of plywood, and their reliance on self-tapping screws (which is a sign of "doing it on the cheap" - not "handmade"), but one of the biggest interior problems prior to the mid 1980s (sorry Derrick!) is the terrible quality of the dash topper - weak and flimsy, and very prone to both warpage and shrinkage (Paul ?!?!), and general ugly morphage even without much sun exposure (not to mention the a/c ducting is less than adequate on the early models).

Then you have the rear "seat" cushions - stuffed with trimmings from the local dog groomers?!?!

My dash and interior are quite nice.

No worries. You can always fix this with more self tapping screws.

First thing my 12yr old son commented on. The look on his face when he first sat in the back was priceless. Finding a wad of horse hair for a cushion was a surprise. the new high density seating foam I trimmed and stuck in there is a lot better.

Holy shart, you just devalued your car beyond recognition with that mod - put horse pubes back immediately!!!!!!!!

If I manufactured cheap kit cars, I'd still be looking for higher quality sun visors than those that came in 70s-80s 911s.

Really...not many cars hold up the test of time, including many million dollar classics...that's why most have been restored. Also if you think that a modern car will hold up better..you're just kidding yourself. I've seen low mileage modern high dollar cars have interiors that I can bet Rawknees tushi will not look nowhere near as good in 30+ years.
