Telltale Boost Gauge install success

Did a test fit of my new mechanical gauge - removed clock, ran hose through to frunk, ported brake booster line in trunk, used Napa Valley Auto Parts generic check valve. Stock electronic gauge shows boost much quicker but is pegged a 1,0 bar whereas mechanical telltale gauge reads 0,8 bar exactly. Will tidy up the install shortly. Toughest part was finding the right combination of NPT fittings since the gauge came without the lines, check valve or fittings.

The Napa Valley Auto Parts check valve couldn't stand the boost! Noting a little super glue and gorilla tape can't fix!

I don't think you need that lame check valve and the gauge would probably work better without it.

I wasn't sure if the gauge could handle vacuum - there is quite a vacuum suck in the hose when not on boost. I saw somewhere here the internals of the gauge so I think I'm safe. But the factory included a check valve so I'll use one. I think you are right that the gauge might be more responsive without the check valve. It essentially is a big inline resistor to air flow. So low boost/low psi doesn't register.

The larger check valve that comes with these gauges is a replacement for the original press in brake booster check valve that eventually connects to the intake manifold. It includes the male 8mm hose attachment for the gauge.

I've taken these gauges apart, taken pics of the inside, posted the pics more than once, and 930 intake manifold vacuum during deceleration isn't any where near enough to hurt them.

That generic low quality 5mm or 6mm ID hose check valve that exploded on you is for low grade after market vacuum gadgets and is not made to handle air pressure.
Do as you wish and enjoy the result.

Cool, thanks. I'll remove the check valve tomorrow. For now, it's a fun toy to have. Max boost registered is above 0,9 but less than 1,0.
