EFI for ignition only
A few months ago I was inquiring about using Electromotives XDI200 ignition to fire twin plug ignition on my 1987 930. For reference here is that thread Electromotive XDI-200 to control dual plug ignition
In that thread Chris at Turbokraft mentioned using an engine management computer to run the a twin plug ignition. Can anyone walk me through what would be necessary to make that happen? I've done some searching and reading, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of people who have taken this route. Here is what I assume I'd need: 1. ECU - Probably MS3pro or similar 2. Crank Pully with appropriate Trigger Wheel 3. Variable Reluctance (VR) sensor 4. Map Sensor 5. Knock Sensor 6. COP coils - I'm not sure what coils work and I only have a vague idea of smart vs dumb coils etc. Am I correct in assuming i don't need these inputs without running fuel? 1. Throttle position sensor 2. Head temp sensor 3. EFI Injector blocks 4. Fuel Rails 5. Fuel Injectors I'd greatly appreciate everyones thoughts and guidance on this. And any suggestions on material to read to get a better grasp on the process would also be appreciated. I'm at the first grade level of EFI understanding, so be patient ![]() I like this route because it leaves the door open for Fuel control down the road, has a knock sensor for saving my rebuilt engine in a bad situation, and with data logging. Things like boost control etc are also nice options for a later date. Thanks so much for the input. Rich

Looks about right. The 1.8t coils I used were very easy to set up for single plug, but you would have to research whether the logic level signal will still trigger them if you split the signal to 2 coils. People have verified the LS coils working like this, as well as some toyota coils.
Ignition only is not very commonly done because once you're at that point, its not much more effort to go full efi, and the benefits are tremendous. I'd say if you're going this route, set it up so you can easily add efi in the future.

Rich think hard about just getting a Carrara manifold on there and doing EFI.

Thanks for the input dos. without a doubt I'll be prepping for fuel in the future. The project is just much more manageable from a budget perspective if I can postpone the 3k in injectors, injector blocks, fuel rails, sensors, new fuel pump(s) and misc plumbing for a later date.
Chris, I have to admit I'm kicking myself because I sold 3.2 heads and a manifold shortly before rebuilding my 3.3. i should've probably sold the 3.3 heads and kept the 3.2's and the manifold. As the saying goes; experience is what you get right after you needed it. I've found myself wanting parts I just sold too often, and somehow they're always a lot more expensive to buy than they are to sell. Just FYI I've been looking into this harder because I've been having ignition problems, and if I'm going to be spending money fixing the ignition I figure that moving on the path towards efi is probably the wisest path to follow. Thanks again and please keep the ideas coming.
