Finally found working idle settings after lowering the req-fuel twice and raising the idle bins.
Still strugling with good off idle bins. What are the key elements on easy take off? My idle timing is 500 25deg 900 and 1000 12deg 1200 sharply raising to 35 at 2000. I Never had problems with my AIC setup which was MAP based also but the WUR helped a lot of tuning AFR so it was much better than what I have now. I had a sticky throttle and now that I fixed it off idle is somewhat doable but I still stump it maybe every other time. |
Afr seems ok where it travels on VE table when it stumbles. My setup makes it difficult to tune as it has low vacuum on idle and it first shoots diagonal for revs and then high up on low revs and then right and down and bogs. Lowest vacuum I have seen is around 60kpa and idle is 65.
I also have a steel ca. 13lb FW but off idle was really good with cis and aic. How can I use custom filter? It says the expressions are not configuren in my projects outputs or settings? I tried to rule out idle bins so rpm < 1220 and map < 66 is what Im trying to filter on live tune. |
Timing is all wrong.
way too much timing at low RPM. Retard timing to catch stalls. Too much timing at tip-in and low rpm. stumble at tip-in is usually lean. match AFR at smooth idle with raised rpm and clutch load. You should be able to see it rise under load when you open throttle to maintain RPM letting clutch out. |
Retard on idle bins or all over low rpms? I had high timing when I had cis and it did not stall back then. I will try to log a slow clutch release but not so slow afr was under 13 mostly.

just idle bins. The lowest two rows you have. Should be about 8 deg for single plug at the MAP pressure you idle at. Then transition to about 2 deg at 100kPa and up to 12 deg at your lowest off-throttle kPa reading.
BTW, AFR13 on E85 is WAY LEAN. stoich is about AFR9.8. This is why your car has throttle tip-in problems. Using E85 I would target a tune based around AFR8.8. This would be similar to a Lambda0.9 or Gasoline AFR13.1. |
I switched to MS timing and it got much better with the hugely bigger resolution. I set the idle bins to 6 and lowest rpm to 25 to catch stalls. I also tried to use the idle ve table but Im not sure its active without idle valve?
While at the gas station I found out this engine needs a lot of ase to start. I was running out of laptop battery so it got pretty tense figuring whats up with no start. The battery died the moment it started! |
Smurf,
You can change the ASE Taper table from engine cycles to 0.1 sec. When you change it, the Y-axis is still labeled "cycles" but the numbers are actually 0.1 sec. I have increasing ASE taper from 140*F up to 220*F (maximum of something like 1.5 minutes) for heat soaked hot restarts because I have a large Carrera manifold to cool off after restart. ASE % is 2% decreasing to 1% in this temperature range. However, I am not aware of what you would need for E85. I do not think you can use idle VE without an idle valve set up, but I may be wrong. Looking at the MS3 manual it appears idle control is needed. |
Yes, changing idle ve table does nothing for my idle. I have stock manifold and ase is already on seconds. I have my taper really short like 50 = 5sec because how rich it has been. I think I need to lenghten it but probably not to minute.
Today I managed to drive about 150 miles but those veal analyses are odd for low cruise kpas. They tend to make it really lean so I try to not let it overrun as that screws those numbers. Take off is pretty managable now. I cant use overrun feature because my TPS IS FUNKY. When ever I calibrate it next moment its in minus numbers so I cant find setup numbers on overrun dialog! I have my TPS sensor hooked up to ms3 sensor ground, ref5v and blue shielded signal wire. Still it gives me erratic numbers? sensor came from gsf with wrong throttle axle and the dude would not send me the correct 930 throttle axle so I had to drill and tap a bolt to the axle end so it would reach the sensor. Maybe there is play at the sensor end now. Thanks for the suggestions and help to all players. |
