Oil in exhaust
I am probably just freaking out a bit.
However after finally getting the turbo looking as if it is now fixed. I have run the engine for 40 - 50 minutes before driving my930. I did only drive to fuel it and back for around 2 kilometres . I notice there is oil around the wastegate and inside the exhaust tip. Should I be concerned or do I need to drive further ? |

Do you have headers or OEM exchangers? The reason for asking is the wastegate circuit is further up stream from the turbo on OEM exchangers making oil more likely from the engine than the turbo. Not definitive but more likely. I'd clean up what you see and drive it again. If more oil appears drop the exhaust system and see where it is coming from.

How did you clean out your exhaust system and such after your long drawn out battle with the previous turbo rebuilds going south on you?
The pipes & muffler can hold an enormous amount of oil in them after you've had a turbo oil blow-by event. Maybe what your seeing is just past accumulations finding their way through the system. I've read here that some guys have had to completely flush out the entire system with solvent, from intercooler-to-piping-to headers/heat exchangers-to-muffler, to get it all cleaned out. Mark |

Oh that's a game changer! Yes absolutely you need to wash all the oil out if there is enough that it is backing up into the waste gate. You can let it burn out but I wouldn't want coked oil around the waste gate valve.

It's probably worth mentioning that Steve ended up with a lot of oil in the combustion chambers when the re-build turbo was churning out loads of oil from the compressor side (to the point that the engine hydorlocked from it). No doubt a lot of oil went out the exhaust valves. |

Thanks guys,
I actually have a spare (new) wastegate. Just not sure I will be able to remove the old one without stripping or breaking each nut and bolt but I will have a look. I did the best I could cleaning the muffler, intercooler, air cleaner box and pipes with brake cleaner. The weird thing is even though there is oil present in the muffler tip there is no smoke and the oil appears to be seeping from wastegate at the exhaust flange. |

Hello,
I give you an idea, maybe you have the pipe of the return of oil a little filled(blocked) or folded turbo, that could lead(drive) to this kind(genre) of breakdown. ;-) Pat |

When I began the mechanics on my car, once I had forgotten to remove a cork (to protect the engine the time(weather) of the dismantling) on the pipe of return of oil of the turbo and I had had exactly the same problems as you.
