Perfect road for a 930..
Hey guys,
While in Thailand, and driving around, I realized what killer roads there are there for a 930. About 3/4 the way down a particular road, I realized that I should take a video to share. This particular road went on like this for 27 kilometers up, at between 5 and 8 percent grade, then about 16 kilometers down at the same grade. So going up you would be on boost the entire time! First off, I've never done this, so it shows...sorry, secondly I'm driving a 1.8L Toyota Altis rental car, with about 60hp and the truck in front of us never exceeded 45 KPH. Yes that's kilometers per hour.....so you can only imagine running this road at a proper pace. Here is a YouTube link to my crappy video...and yes sorry again for the cheesy audio snips...forgot I was being recorded. I promise to do better next time. https://youtu.be/HmOtqN_Jsa8 Mark |

Yeah, that would be a blast in the "proper" car, for sure. Driving on the wrong side of the road would fock me over, though. And don't they (in Tailand) throw you in jail and hang you by your toenails for life if caught at triple digits? (just kidding; probably more forgiving than here in the states).

No problem with Johnny law...they are few and far between, mainly stick to the main highways. and most rules are merely a suggestion anyway.
If you do get caught you can simply pay the fine [i.e. bribe] right on the spot for a mere several hundred baht [32 baht to the dollar]. My kinda place to drive! And you get used to driving on the wrong side real quick...no big deal. Mark |

We have been driving on the wrong side for ever, and no issues to date. Only when foreigners turn up do we have issues :-)
You guys are on the wrong side. This side works perfectly well. Alan

Hey Kevin,
Not financially feasible to import my 930 into Thailand. When the car was valued at about 40K it was estimated to run me 30K to get it into the country. Now with values being what they are, it would be absurdly expensive to attempt it. Also a note to know, the Thai customs officials assign the value to the car when it is sitting on their docks, you have ZERO say in the matter. If they say it is worth 100K...well then, that is what you are taxed on in order to get it released. You cannot say to the forget it, and put it back on the boat. You either pay the tax or they confiscate the car. Mark |
