Porsche Classic 10w-60 Motor Oil -
Hi Folks,
I know the "good ole" oil discussion for the Porsche... ![]() But I recently switched to using the Porsche Classic 10w-60 oil for my '88 Turbo (original engine w/ 56K miles). I had been using 15w-50 Mobil for the last 8 years. The car always smokes (the initial puff) at start-up and I always observed a few/minor oil dime-to-quarter spot sizes on the ground after usage - while driving throughout all seasons in the Mid-Atlantic region. But since I changed to 10w-60, I no longer see the smoke at start-up and oil leaks after turning the engine off. Granted, I have only been driving the car during the summer (temperatures) since the oil was changed, so I assume the higher viscosity at higher temperature helps to mitigate the leaks (not sure how it would help suppress the smoke at start-up). Perhaps during the winter months, I will once again see the return of small oil leaks, with the lower oil viscosity at lower temperatures. But I will stick to the 10w-60 oil, since the car gets driven more during the warmer temperature months anyway. Needless to say, the car seems overall happier with the Porsche Classic oil ![]() Have any folks switched to 10w-60 and can confirm these observations? never heard of it.
not sure I would put a 60 weight oil in. if it is NOT synthetic I would definitely NOT put it in. the heat from the turbo, especially in summer time is too hard on dyno oil. oil break down is one issue but you will also get coking in the turbo, eventually the pieces will break off and can clog oil ports. unless it a hi mileage oil that may treat seals and stop oil leaks is one thing, but I would be cautious of it stopping leaks and smoke at startup. I could live with smoke at startup for an oil that is taking care of the engine. I would stick to amsoil or mobile 1.

AFAIK it is synthetic. Please correct me if I am wrong - looking to change oil on the 930, but there isn’t too much avail. here in dk.

Reading the description, they state newer oils are technically better, and have better detergents:
"Although modern oils are better from a technical point of view" Crazy they'd state that... This is my take from the excerpt from their website: 1. Old motor - use the Porsche 10W-60 (less detergent to mitigate creating leaks and higher oil pressure) 2 New motor - use modern oils and don't look back
