Oil level after engine run in

Hi all,

Had my engine rebuilt (83 911SC) and recently had a 500mile service and valve job. Everything is running great and all looks well. The only concern I have is the oil level. It has been filled to right on if not slightly over max on the dipstick when checked correctly. I’ve read many things about how this can be very bad. There are no signs of an overfill (other than the gauge) and the car runs great, no smoke, good power etc. I called the shop (very reputable well established shop in the socal area) and he said he likes to fill it high to see how much it burns. Does this sound right? I’m tempted to drain a bit out as I don’t want to damage my very expensive investment!! Thanks in advance.

Steve

PS new to Porsche and new to the area! Loving the community so far and looking forward to getting involved in my now healthy 911SC.

The only issue with a full tank would be the possibility of some oil getting sloshed into the breather hose and ending up in the intake. With normal street driving you are probably OK.

FWIW, I always run mine at the bottom of the dip stick, but I regularly run at autocrosses.
