engine teardown question
first time taking engine apart to deal with broken head studs. Got as far as about to remove distributor but found can no longer fully rotate engine to get to tdc. Maybe something fell into an intake but nothing is visable. Can rotate clockwise and anticlockwise to same position each time but no further. As all is coming apart can I proceed without tdc or will I have to find a solution to remove distributor and cam nuts. Any advice gratefully received.................Russell

Broken head studs. You have SC. Or Carrera
Weather it will turn over or not You have to remove the head unit and the cylinders affected To get to the studs that are broken If there is something in the cylinder when the heads come off The you’ll see it Bruce |

That definitely does sound like something has fallen into a cylinder, if it will rotate both ways to the same place. Been there.

You don't need to be able to rotate it to disassemble. You do when you assemble - it is useful to be able to rotate when you put it back in and fire it up :-)
You can carry on with disassembly. I had that issue once - was binding on the engine stand. Alan

Correct.........
Quote:
Russell, You don’t need TDC for your engine disassembly. Continue your disassembly because you probably dropped a nut or washer inside the motor. You will find the culprit as you remove the cylinder heads. Tony |

How far are you? If you have the P/C set removed and rods not supported they will bind and not allow rotation. Please provide a little more info or pictures about where you are at....
