first start rebuilt 911T 2.4L
We rebuiltt he 2.4L with new rings, valve job, bearings etc..
Waynes book recommends runninga t 2500 for 20 minutes on a rebuilt, however we resuseed the cams and rockers as they were in nice shape. 2 questions: 1. should valves be adjusted .15mm above normal then readjusted? 2. since cams should do not need broken in should we go driectly to stage 2? Thanks

Not sure what to tell you on the adjustment spec. My personal opinion is that if quality work was done on the heads then nothing should really move, and the extra clearance is not important. I did not use any extra clearance when I redid the top end on my 3.6. They did not require adjustment when I went back in to check later. If anything I was actually worried that the thick assembly lube I applied to the camshaft was artificially increasing the clearance vs a standard maintenance lash setting.
personally I would go straight to stage 2.. I'm honestly not sure that a cam break in is incredibly important with a 911 layout. Not that an abundance of caution is a bad thing. The break in is more critical on an engine where the flat tappets run on the cam and also spin in their bore. The break in allows the lifters to spin against the cam and start to develop a pattern. The high idle, i believe, is just to keep the oil pressure high to make sure the top end is well lubricated during this process. The 911 rockers can really only move in one motion against the cam, aside from some side to side play, which is potentially established during a break in. Especially in your case the used rockers and cam have already developed a pattern with each other, and you should be ok to start driving. Again, on my 3.6 I had a similar situation and didn't worry about cam break in. |
