Advice on 1969 2.0S upgrade

Gents

I'm considering jumping into a new (hopefully) fun project.

It's a 1965 swb 912 with a 1969 2.0S MFI engine transplant (engine nr 6390928). 5 Speed 901 gearbox. Engine was rebuilt to stock configuration in the mid 80's. Leakdown is good.

I would like it to be a fun hot street car and since I can leave nothing alone, I'm trying to plan an upgrade for the engine. I have zero experience with the early engines, but rebuilt a few 3.0's, 3.2s and 3.6's.

I like the idea of keeping the 69 engine instead of a 3.0 swap or similar. Loads of info on 2.0t upgrades, but not much info on 2.0s? The S allready has bigger valves, so that is a plus. Still, not the best platform for an upgrade?

A few questions:

Is +200hp within reach without breaking the bank?

Do you recommend a 2.2 big bore and is the MFI up for the task? Should I keep the S heads or machine them to fit?

I rarely see twin plugged 2.0s engines - any particular reason? Bad head design?

One of the most interesting upgrades I've seen was posted by Henry Schmidt: A 70.4m crank with a 81mm overbore, using standard S heads which should fit the MFI just fine. Best option?

Not many 2.3 builds out there? A 2.5 build seems to be beyond budget.

Any good advice is appreciated

There was a similar thread recently re: a guy with a 67S looking to upgrade, with input from at least one expert on the topic. Probably worth a read => 67 S engine questions

The 69S made 170hp DIN if I recall correctly, which = 190 hp SAE. You're almost to 200 already .
