Indexing Plug Wires to Distributor Cap
Keywords: Indexing the Distributor Rotor Cap to the correct Plug Wires on a 1977 911.
I have a slight problem - hope someone can help. I have a 1977, 911 Carrera. Car had been running perfect. While just doing the nominal maintenance last weekend, changing the Spark Plugs and checking the rotor and rotor cap, I noticed that at least 3 of the old plug wires came loose from the Distributor cap. I ended up ordering a new set of Wires, Cap and Rotor from Pelican today. I am certian about the correct firing order and the cylinder orientation, thanks to the Pelican tech article: Firing Order :1, 6, 2, 4, 3, 5. front 3 6 2 5 1 4 rear Question is can someone please advise what the 'Pin-out" or Wiring order is on the rotor cap? Please specify relitive to the "Top" of the cap rotating "Clockwise", starting with the 1St terminal / wire after the larger (1/4") Notch on the underside. Thanks - sorry if I got too long winded w/ the question. Regards, Scott S Orange, Ca [URL=http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_static_timing/911_static_timing.htm] ![]()

Put the motor at TDC on #1 (there should be a little mark on the distributor about where the rotor is pointing. This is where the #1 wire goes. Then just put on 6,2,4,3,5. If that's not what you're asking, please clarify.

Plug Wire / Location on Distributor
Thanks Colin for the quick reply. That seems pretty logical. I will just line up - Point at TDC for Wire 1. Then off to the races!
What I was afraid of doing was accidentally advancing or de-advancing the wires on the distributor cap by one (or more) position, as such the firing order might be correct, but the location of the wire on the cap could be out of position. Not sure if this would be a disaster, but in this economy I can not afford to pay someone to fix what I tried to fix. More so, this would be an embarrassment, all because the wires pulled out drom the boots when removing the cap! Cheers, Scott S
