Oil Pump Lock tabs???

If I assemble the 2.7 case without the oil pump lock tabs, am I playing some form of Russian Roulette? I don't have new ones, nor do I have old ones. I'm thinking 8mm wavy washers, red Loctite and 25 ft-lbs may be sufficient. Or, should I try to get some from the dealer...evidently, new ones don't come in the gasket kit.

Opinions?

Thanks!
Pat

For what its worth:

On the 3.6 motors they use metal locking nuts and locktite red without the locking tabs.

We stopped using lock taps some 8 years ago. Now we use AN washers (very thin, hardened) and prevailing torque lock nuts. No issues with this method even on race engines.

Thanks everyone. I'll forego the tabs...they probably cost a fortune at the dealer anyway!

They're probably like $3... I'm not sure I'd leave them off for $3... Use SOMETHING to lock them down anyway...

A velcro cup holder cost less than $3. Why not put one in your race car?
Unnecessary is unnecessary no matter how much the cost.

While my Wrightwood Racing gasket set included the lock tabs, the 3.6 does not use them from the factory, and I used metal locking nuts and hardend washers (stock stuff) just like Master Henry.

Lock tabs...$5.95 per tab at the dealer (not in stock). Hard to find prevailing torque nuts around the 4th of July. Guess I'm not getting my case together tonight.

Chris:
That is very generous! Alas, I don't feel like another trip to Pennsy in the next day...just came home from Pocono in the Independance Day traffic.
Happy 4th!

Digging up this thread from way back as I'm not having much luck with google. I'm about to put a 3.2 case back together and I need to procure the proper nuts, can't find a pointer to the exact part I need to purchase. While I'm asking, what is the prevailing wisdom for installing these - washer and special locking nut, red Loctite, or the original locking tabs? If special washer/nut, if someone has a pointer to the correct source that would be very helpful (actually, I need a pointer to any recommended nut as I do not currently have that part on my bench).
Thanks!
Bill

Thanks Bruce. Any washers or just the nuts? What torque value?
Same questions for the single nut that is in the left side chain housing.
I'd stop by but I think it's a long drive from San Jose :-)
