Bolts -- where to buy with factory type coating/plating
Where can I buy metric bolts that have the plating like the factory?
For my axles I used some that were standard zinc plating and they were a bear to get out. They'd stick and really be hard to break loose. Went back to factory ones and they break loose very smoothly. I recently went to California Motorsport Diff cover and needed different length bolts (don't recall if shorter or longer). In any case, replaced with standard zinc plated ones and they also "stuck". Everyone one "popped" when breaking loose to remove. Where can I get bolts that have a factory like plating/coating? |
I like EBS racing for this. Enquire by email or phone.

My axle bolts are not plated. Usually the high strenght bolts, 12.9, will be unplated. That said, I have never experienced bolts sticking due to zinc plating. Most guys have trouble with them coming loose...

My bags of axle bolts and clutch bolts are just flat black with 12.9 markings

The plating controls corrosion. Use anti-seize to lube the threads. Increases torque accuracy; prevents electrolysis and corrosion.

I don't think there is any magic about Porsche bolts! I bought Porsche exhaust head studs from the dealer about 14 years ago. Would you believe they rusted, again!? Didn't have to have them drilled out this time, thank goodness. Replaced them with ARP studs, the head ones didn't rust, so they must have a better solution! I'll check them in 10 or so years to see ;-).
