Thoughts on Elgin 306 288.102 cams for 2.8

Cams in a 2.8 race motor I have are Elgin 306 288 102. Any of you gurus have any opinion on this cam and suitability for a long rod 2.8 liter long stroke race engine?

Any better options?

That's very similar to a DC65 I believe. I am running these in my personal EFI ITB car and they are great but idle is a bit rough. If you're driving at a slower track I wouldn't go any hotter.

I thought the Elgin 315 worked great on my 2.7L race motor. 7,600 turned out to be the best upshift point. About 10.2 CR, Weber 46s, ~228 RWHP. Valve lash for that cam, which seems to be unique, is 0.008". Engine actually idled fine, wasn't tricky creeping around in the paddock.

But I'd ask Elgin what they think.

I’d say it depends on a few factors including how high you plan to rev it. I have an Elgin 310-296 on 100 lobe centers in a 2.7L race engine. I don’t have dyno results to share but suspect that it would be similar to what Walt shared. I have been happy with this grind for my track-only car.

Agreed that it’s good to talk to the grinder. share the specs of your motor, and see what they recommend.
