Cam Tower Can Bearing Surface

1972 2.4T Build....or should I say pre-build...

1.) Is this normal surface wear on the cam bearing surface?

2.) What is the purpose of this small pin? (if it is a pin…)

It doesn't look bad to me, but others may have other views.

The "pin" is a plug for the drilling which takes the lubricating oil from the spray bar (assuming it is installed with the correct orientation) into the bearing below. If you stick a finger into the bearing area you can feel the hole.
