Flywheel Bolt Torque
Haynes manual says 66 ft/lbs
Someone on this forum said 160 N/M (110 ft/lbs) Another post says 150 ft/lb. ![]() Not a race car, just sealing up some leaks. 12mm x 6 flywheel bolts.

66 lbs/ft is for the 9 bolt cranks (more bolts, larger bolt circle, smaller bolt diameter). Not for your '73.
110 is what Porsche specified for the earlier 6 bolt cranks. Works fine for street motors kept within the stock RPM limit. 150 lbs/ft and careful application of red Loctite is what you need for 6 bolt crank race motors which will be seeing RPMs up above, say, 7,500 RPM many times each lap. There really is no downside (other than that it is harder to do, and to keep the tool in the bolt heads while applying that much force), but that much torque is not needed for a stock motor. |
