Bearing Cost
My engine builder has ordered 0.50 under BE’s & 0.50 over mains and delivered me an eye watering invoice saying they’re available Porsche only .. a quick search online shows otherwise .. eBay, Stoddards .. where else can I source these ??

Dealing with cut cranks and line bored cases, glutton for punishment.

The machine shops which do a lot of work on Porsche air cooled cases have learned you don't just line bore the case, because that calls for oversized main bearings. And often their ID needs to be undersized, and that gets really costly. Too late for you, I suppose, but the standard practice nowadays is to shave the cases a bit so that they can be align bored back to standard. First under mains aren't all that expensive, as I recall, if the crank is turned. |

I’ve got some more info .. the B/E journals and main journals are both 0.50 under, the cases will be line bored and machines back to standard .. my main beef if what he’s asking for these bearings as Stoddards has 0.50 mains for ~$350 and Pelican offers original Porsche B/E’s for $70 ... should be ~US$500 total ...

Shops charge a markup on parts as well as labor.
