This is definitely the "sharp end of the stick", as my engineer Dad would say, and a pleasure and priviledge to see...behind-the-scenes peek.

Basic question: would the engine make better numbers WITH the filters because the filtration media somehow creates favorable characteristics to the airflow...as in, the foam either straightens it out or swirls it up? Thanks, John/CT

The choice has a little bit to do with a multitude of variables.
First, dyno sheets show an increase in performance with air filters installed vs. no air filter. We did not do a comparative dyno run with K&N.
Aesthetics is always a consideration. ITGs offer high quality filtration with a "period correct" feel.
Perhaps the largest factor is the universal appeal of the ITG. They allow us to custom fit them to a plethora of custom intakes.
We're really happy with the way they fit on our custom high butterfly stacks.

i used to have data somewhere from another forum where a user tested it ITG/pipercross/K&N and from memory the data showed the ITG had the best flow/particle filtration of the lot- pipercross close behind.

curious about this too, i know the stock Rx8 intake for example there is even a fine mesh or something that straightens airflow etc so could well be?

My personal feeling is that some may flow better than others but they all flow enough for the two valve engines we build.

I just had a customer as m about this build so I thoughts it was time for a refresher.
We build more 3.2 Short Stroke motors now...More is better ....right?

Our newest version of high butterfly air filter stacks.
We can offset the filter bases to allows for better fitment. Left side towards front pulley and the right side towards the flywheel.

Both engines were built using an SC engine case.
The 2.8 SS uses a 66mm SuperCrank and the 3.2 SS uses a 3.0 70.4 mm crank.
2.8 SS is a 95 X 66 mm Bore and stroke. The 3.2 SS uses a 98 X 70.4mm bore and stroke.
They both use a version of a 130mm GT3 rod.
