I've used total seal rings with iron cylinders, and also with aluminum ones Nikasiled. I liked them, though I can't claim to have quantified any performance advantage. Leakdowns were always around zero.
I'd contact the Total Seal folks - they can tell you if these rings are right for Nikasil. Or contact J&E. I suspect Total Seal has more than one type of ring material, depending on the cylinder. Their special deal is the two piece ring which doesn't leave a gap. |

We used their ring packs in Nicasil plated cylinders, good results. The set up we used had a gapless Second ring.
They were super friendly and responsive to our inquiries. Cheers

Also used total seal rings on nikasil plated alusil cylinders with JE pistons. Also used the gapless, 2-piece second ring. 6000+ miles and measured 1-2% leak-down
I set my rings to the Porsche manual gaps. 0.008-0.016”. Much smaller gap than recommended by JE. You may want to question 0.026” gap as that is close to a worn out ring according to Porsche Others can comment on this, but my logic is air cooled cylinders grow a lot more than water cooled, hence the need for tighter gaps. And you don’t zing a cold engine. I did what Porsche recommended. Worked. |
