project Weber Carbuerators Into 1973.5 CIS Engine
I am going to put Weber Carbs on my 2.4 CIS motor... (please do not try to tell me how great CIS is ... (it is out) Except the ALUMINUM COLLARS that the injectors and rubber Was in.... There in is the problem!! Can anybody tell me how they removed the ALUMINUM COLLARS and how You PLUGGED the hole ?????? At this point I have not taken the engine from the car, nor have I removed the heads off of the engine...(which I am sure will bring disparaging remarks) Help from someone WHO HAS DONE this will be truly appreciated... Thank You in advance !!!!!!

Cross posted in 911 Forum.
You have been looking at this conversion since 2011. Why the extended delay?

HI,
I just removed the plugs a couple weeks ago but have not plugged the holes. Basic process was to progressively drill out CIS collars. They are made of two part If I remember correctly . Outer part is what sticks out of the head. There is a inner part that looks to have been pushed in to hold the outer part. I will have to look at drill sizes I used. Drilled inner part until it came out. Drilled outer part until it was thin enough to pull out of head. This leaves a pretty large hole. I was planning on tapping and sealing with threaded plug or bolt. I will look for drill sizes I used and post (taped them together as I have another set I want to do the same). john |

I've been contemplating "things" about many automotive projects for just as long (or longer) than jyporscheboy. I'm curious as to why this matters. |

Doesn't. Idle curiosity.

I left the injector collars and rubber sleeves in place, then had the local shop make aluminum plugs in place of the injectors.

A quick pic of the plugs installed in my 73.5. The end was threaded so a bolt could be threaded in for removal. I sold them years back when I decided to return to CIS.

I’ve got some CIS heads on the bench. The sleeves are one piece aluminum, and drive out from the inside The remaining holes can be welded shut, or threaded and a plug installed. You might check with Richard Parr at PMO. They used to make kits for converting injected cars to carbs. I wouldn’t try to drill them out with the heads still on the engine.
