Where does this piece come from?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone identify what this object is, or is a part of?
Found in the oil sump screen on a 3.0L 930 aluminum case.

It has a curve to it, it has serrated surface on the inside, smooth surface on the outside. Probably 2 x 5 mm piece as shown below. It is not magnetic so my best guess is that it is a piece aluminum.

I've entertained the idea of this object being:
- piece of the pressure relief pistons -> seems to be too big for the object to come from the piston
- piece of piston squirter -> maybe it could be a piece of the squirter housing, but I'm having a hard time imagining what would cause a squirter to break.

Ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Valve keepers are magnetic as far as I know. This piece is not magnetic.

looks like a piece of debris left from a machining operation. Perhaps a shaving from the removal of a valve guide? What else is brass in the motor?

I'm stumped right now too. The guides are 9mm, so that's a bit small. The other bronze/yellow colored bushings are on the timing chain idlers, rocker arms, and small end of the con rods, but they're all way bigger than that.

Unless it came out of a chain tensioner? It's been awhile since I've pulled apart an old style tensioner.

Let me think about it more over the weekend. I'm putting together another 930 engine anyway, so I'll keep an eye out.

If items showed are non magnetic, they are from an outside source.

In the first pic, the piece looks more golden in color like a bushing. In the third pic it looks more like aluminum.

Can you share the logic in coming to that? There are non-ferrous parts all over the engine. And how would it enter? This piece didn't come through the oil pump.

It appears that way on pictures due to the lighting on my work bench, however it is a classic frosty silver-ish aluminum color.
