915 - G50 gearbox conversion on 82 3.0L SC

I have an 82 SC Sport with a 915 gearbox. I'm havin a bit of a problem selecting 2nd gear (grinding on both up and down shift), unless I double-de-clutch. I was thinking that if there is a need to strip the box down to fix it, then I might consider the option of installing a G50 box instead. I've heard that they can be fitted but there is a need to have part of the caseing cut down and a different flywheel/clutch installed.
Has anyone done this or have any info on the conversion?
I use the car on track mostly and occasional road use.
Any advice greatfully recieved.
Cheers
Tom

The costs of a G50 conversion is considerably more expensive than just rebuilding a 915 - like 3-4 times as much. The transmission will need to be shortened and the hydraulic clutch parts (pedals) mounted.

It's looking like I'll go with a rebuild of the 915 and at the same time alter the ratios for track use.

Well you can always convert your rear suspension to coilovers, cur out some sheet metal from back-seat compartment and fit unshortened G50, but it's porbably quite pricey if you cannot do it yourself.
