Spray bar cleaning non removal
I always hated removing those bars, they are fragile, hard to reseal etc.
Slide in a bar to close off the cam bearing oil holes except the last bearing, hookup the pump and let everything run in the 230 degree ultrasonic tank for 15 min ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just cleaned a set of cam towers the old fashioned way. PITA. This looks much better.

Same way I clean oil coolers except I’ll back flush those and put a filter inline to see if I catch any metal.

Purging the spray bar...........
Craig,
This was my 20-year old PVC cam contraption from Home Depot that I used for purging the spray bars of the cam towers. This procedure is also demonstrated in the engine rebuilding classes I conducted for PP members. The 2020 sessions were postponed due to the virus and awaiting for a good time to resume the classes. Your name is on top of the list I recommend to the participants. Thanks. ![]() ![]() Tony |

By golly, Tony, your system is brilliant. I never seemed to have enough of the right fingers to block the journal holes, especially with the 4 journal cam carriers. But I've gone to screw plugs, and once installed it is hard to beat pulling the tube for certainty.
Long ago I had an inexpensive wash tank. But I must have used the wrong solvents, as after a couple of years it rusted through in a couple of places so it was off to the dump. I don't know how often a spray bar hole gets blocked. I've never found one, and my bars have been clean even after losing a rod or other disaster. But that's jut my several motors. But I've seen what happens if even one of those holes gets blocked. |

Craig - you don't block the final bearing hole because of what? It is a bigger hole than the spray holes, so any fine guck should be washed to the end and out that hole?

Yep I leave the last bearing open for any gunk to wash out, I wanted a lot of flow not pressure, didn’t want the small holes to clog up while cleaning.
