Superchargers? yes or no?
Porsche 911 SC 3.0 litre 1978
SUPERCHARGER Can anyone help? I have only had my 911 SC for 3 months and i think it is fabulous. My garage said i could improve performance if i had fitted a SUPERCHARGER. Can anyone tell me: 1) What are the advantages 2) What are the costs 3) What are the problems 4) Where can i obtain one. I am in UK 5) Any other advice Thankyou my friends . I do appreciate this forum and support it wholeheartedly john young

Hi there. First off, get one of these:
http://www.101projects.com/rebuild.htm I have quite a few pages devoted to forced-induction engines. You basically have to design the engine from the ground up in order to avoid major detonation problems. Also do a search in the main 911 forum, there is a *ton* of info answering all of these questions... -Wayne

Supercharging of Knoxville has two systems that will work with the SC. The Paxton kit was about $4,800 and the Whipple kit was $7,000. They suggest you make some "optional modifications" to the motor such as Raceware head studs and rod bolts, lightweight clutch, etc.
I don't think they have a web site anymore. But for more info, you may want to try: Tel. (865) 579-1534 or SoKPorsche@aol.com

Hm...US SC engines should have fairly low C/R (8.6:1 ??) so it's probably possible to use some sort of mild (0.4 bar or less) forced induction w/o using lower C/R pistons. You'll need to fiddle with fuel delivery tough.
That being said, it's probably cheaper/easier to turbocharge it. If you are not mechanically inclined (and you should be) i believe it's much better idea to buy a 930...
