Profilometer & Warranty question

All,

Don’t suppose anyone knows a shop in Chicagoland area that has a profilometer that can check specs on some cylinders back from Millennium? Engine builder planned to skip step, ostensibly relying on having clearly provided specs to Millennium. I’m not comfortable with that. There are a few other areas during the rebuild that have been flags for me also (e.g. not magnafluxing crank or rods, albeit I’d expect them to have been in good shape and visually they were).

Given above, you might appreciate next question - what is a reasonable warranty to expect from a reputable independent?

Cheers,
Tom

Ra check

Just send them to cgarr on this forum.I just sent him a sample of 3 sets of 98mm done by Millenium.1st set was 20.2nd set was 16 with the lower skirt at 13.3rd set was at 11 but they came from US Chrome. Now you have to be careful as a few years ago they changed the chemicals that etched the bores before the replate with Nicasil. You have to put the cylinders in an oven and bring them up to 220 F for one hour.If the plating does not bubble on the cylinder surface you are good to go.Yes,it does suck to have to recheck it all.The 2 sets from Millenium I had asked for an Ra from 4-7.The one set I am lucky as the Max Moritz pistons are a little tight so I can take off a little and lower the Ra.The other set I will have cleaned up and order new CP PISTONS.Aint life fun.I am building a new SS 3.0 for myself but my customer is Anna and getting her done is a priority so she gets my cylinders for her 3.4.I would hate to be a DIY on his 1st rebuild. It used to be easier.Bearings would fit.The quality and consistence of parts is gone.Rocker arms bolts can only be bought from the dealer now if you want the correct stretch.I gotta go.Time for a glass of Merlot and dinner.Ciao

Faapgar, thanks for your reply. I feared as much! Great catch by you.

Millenium assured me today that they checked my cylinders on the way out and they are in fact 4-6Ra as specified. Sadly feels like I best get that checked for myself

Garage
I would hope their warranty was in writing and discussed before you authorized any work.
