Which crank for 3.0 to 3.6 -GT3 or 964
Likely taking this newly built 3.0 up to a 3.6. Need the expert views on advantages of 964 crank vs GT3 with 100mm Mahle pistons/jugs and all the right case work. Its going in this.

Other than potentially price, the 964 crank has no advantages over the 996 GT3 Cup crank......

The GT3 crank is the better crank. It uses 3.0 size rod journals so you can use larger rod bolts. Has better oiling. Overall better than 964.

From an oiling and/or engine character is one better than the other?

Can u buy 996 GT3 crank from Porsche motor sports?
|
I would call William Knight at KnightRace to get the crank. His number is (615) 969-4917. I bought mine from him. He gets the cranks for Porsche Motorsports.

William Knight is the architect of my engine. He can tell you what you want to know. It's a 3.6L race engine with GT3 crank, Carrillo rods, CP pistons, custom cams, AT Power ITBs, custom Xtreme heads, etc. 369 HP/290 ft-lbs torque at the wheels....it's not weak!

Agree, William is super knowledgeable and helpful.

Is William's website down? Looks like domain for sale.
Scott: I'm collecting parts for my build and have the GT3 crank. Do you know with the custom pistons, did he use the longer GT3 rods and a shorter custom piston? I'm no Porsche expert but I've done this with other engines. If your already getting custom pistons, in my case a higher compression turbo, why run custom short GT3 crank/air cooled pins rods and heavier custom pistons then for the shorter rod? |
