2000 996 Cam Durametric Data Question
I have a 996 that just had the engine gone thru and new IMS, cam tensioners etc. The engine was put back together using all of the Porsche cam positioners. After 20 miles or so a CEL came on. Checking it the code is P1325 (Camshaft adjustment Bank 1). After using a Durametric, the following data is obtained as the engine warms.
At startup RMP 1137, both cam deviations are 0, Actual Camshaft angle Bank 1 -13.70 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 2 +0.11 Warmed RPM 828, Both deviations 0 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 1 -13.14 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 2 +0.0 RPM 2076, both cam deviations are 0 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 1 11.52 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 2 24.08 RPM 2374, both deviations 0 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 1 11.23 Actual Camshaft Angle Bank 2 24.5 Basded on the new tensioner pads and the deviation at aero that looks good. What I don't understand is the 13 degree difference between the camshaft angle between bank 1 and 2 given the cams were locked with the Porsche cam tool during assembly. Can someone explain what happened and what the repair is? |

Is this a 5 chain or the 3 chain?
3 chain did you loosen the big cam nut when you locked in the tool? I have to do this adjustment with a new chain.

Based on the difference between banks, something is wrong with Bank 1.
When you say "gone through" what does that include? Was it rebuilt? Was it a repair? New guides, new adjuster between banks, new chains? Has static cam timing been rechecked? P1325 is a code for bank 2 not bank 1. Durametric is great, but has its limitations. It is known for its mis representation of codes. Do a little extra research on the code.... https://www.renntech.org/topic/24113-obd2-fault-code-p1325-inlet-camshaft-bank-2/ Email me directly at jeff@turn3autosport.com and I an send you the Porsche diagnostic tree for that code.... Cheers

Jeff:
Thanks for the info. I will send you an email in a bit. The engine suffered a broken crankshaft and was disassembled ans put back together with new crankshaft, rings, tensioner, IMS, seals, etc. BTW, the engine runs great (haven’t driven it much while trying to figure out the repair). Can you also help me understand where the angles are being measured? My background is small block Chevy motors and cam timing is way simpler! This isn’t the first Porsche motor for the guy doing the repairs but first time with one throwing a code. I thought Durametric got this one corrected with the bank number error. Best, Craig |

Craig, hope you got me email with the diagnositc trees. I am not sure where issue still are with durametric, we have one but don't use it as we have other professional diagnostic units.
Cheers
