Rebuild Question - Cam Housing
I'm in the home stretch of a rebuild of my '69 911E 2.0L (ably assisted by Wayne's new book) and I've hit a speed bump.
I just finished assembling the cam housings, and I'm trying to figure out the correct assembly procedure for the seal and MFI drive pulley that attach to the front end of the left camshaft. first, should the seal at the front end of the left camshaft be pressed all the way into the cam housing, so it sits up against the cam bearing? or should it sit flush with the front of the cam housing? is there anything that holds it in place? (I ask, because either way it seems like it could easily shift) second, on the front side of the left cam housing there is what looks like traces of a sealant or gasket where the sheet metal contacts the cam housing (to the rear of the MFI drive pulley) -- but there's no such gasket in the gasket kit (and I somehow missed taking a photo of this part during the disassembly). I wouldn't expect to see a gasket here, but it really does look like something was there. can anyone advise? any advice on the above would be much appreciated! |

The seal is very similar to the flywheel seal and the front pulley seal, and should be installed in the same manner. As far as I know, I don't know of any gasket in-between the sheet metal...
