Pauter rockers
I just noticed that Pauter makes rockers now for our aircooled cars.
https://pauter.com/parts/rockers/porsche/ has anyone used these? just curious I'm making baby steps to getting my car back on the road and I have several projects to clear first and I was just looking at Pauter's website |

Anything must be better than what Porsche sells, they are horrible. At least a couple of years ago they came pre-pitted from the factory....

I've seen pitting on a few parts on my BMW motorcycles parts from the 70s
One head had a lot of pitting in the casting and I was having pinging issues but that was after making my R50 into a R60 and the R60s were prone to pinging. I finally fixed it by lowering the CR and putting stiffer springs on the advancement weights. The original cam on my R90S had a pit on one of the bearing surfaces but not on a lobe and it wasn't a problem. Both these bikes were from the era of when BMW Motorad was on the edge of going under so they probably let a lot of iffy parts pass thru. |

We remove the old bushing Black Oxide the rocker Precision ream the bushing hole to exacting standards (Porsche just bores a crude hole) Press in the new custom made DP-4 bushing and burnish to size. Surface the contact pad for parallelization. Blast with aluminum oxide and coat the contact pad with Moly dry film (TLML 2) Treat the rocker to a Cryogenic conversion process Clean adjuster threads with 8x1.0 forming tap. All for $ 480 exchange. ![]() ![]()

I don't remember if the original was to worn or if we didn't have any at all.

Henry,
What is the lead time for reclaimed rockers? Since you said $480 exchange, does that mean you have them in stock already to go? Thank you.

We generally have restored sets on the shelf. These types of posts often cause a run on our products but we just completed a batch and we're good to go.

Henry,
Thanks, We have used many vendors to get them done. If you have on the shelf, we will send a couple of core sets down and take a couple of sets. Cheers

The challenge is exchanging like for like.
We have 12 sets (or so) on the shelf but there are 6-7 different types of rockers. We prefer to exchange the same type of rocker as the cores. The differences are generally very small but the there does seem to be a quality difference. The later rockers seem like a lower quality cast iron and they are definitely heavier. The move towards aftermarket forged rockers seems curious to me. Porsche used forged rockers in their early 2.0 production engines but discovered that over-revs resulted in catastrophic failures. The valves would hit the pistons and explosions would ensue. By using cast rockers, contact damage was mitigated by rocker breakage. By creating this breakaway mitigation, quite often you could replace the rocker without having the do any valve work. More than one track day was saved by simply replacing a broken rocker. Forged rockers have their place when weight and enhanced ratios are deemed essential to performance requirements.
