Fan and housing pitted

Hey guys I’ve had this fan for a while and I tossed it in to get almond blasted today.
This is how it came out. This can’t be normal?
Repairable?

Thanks guys!

What did it look like before? It looks like it was heavily corroded.

For my build, I'd source a new set. Don't throw it away, if it's not significantly cracked or chipped, there's a cocktail of filler than can be applied and smoothed over. Then you could cerekote it and it would be great for someone who wants a painted look.

Good call. I just checked and the dealer had them for used prices. Thank you!

Or sell it to a 914 guy, they don't really care what the fan looks like, they can't see it.

Items like fans and housings especially magnesium need to blasted with care. Basics like blasting at an angle rather than head on, using the proper media, psi and grit. Blasting straight on at high psi can actually embed blast material in your part and remove too much material

If structurally still intact, a mix of JB Weld, hand finishing and ceramic coating (not the car detailing stuff) can restore it. High speed unbalance could be an issue if filler unevenly or heavily applied. There are services out there and here that can perform the needed restoration.
