Checking the health of a dormant engine

Is there anything I need to pay close attention to when checking the health of an engine that has been dormant? It had oil in it as the lower oil line dribbled a little out when getting it on the engine stand.

Do I need to drop oil down the cylinders to perform the leak down or is there enough oil from a year ago to turn it over? I guess my real question is can I accidentally score the cylinders for lack of oil? Will that oil affect my leak down numbers if it is required?

Sorry if this seems mundane, I've only worked with recently running or freshly built engines.
