Backdating 964 timing chain boxes
All,
I have a 964 motor in a 914-6 chassis. And I have the typical warped timing chain box issue that is causing a major oil leak. And the cost of replacement magnesium timing chain boxes is outrageous when they are just going to warp and leak again. I was thinking that maybe the timing chain boxes could be backdated to aluminum boxes off the 3.2 engine, complete with the oil fed tensioners. Has anyone ever done this? I can find used aluminum timing chain boxes online, and I know I would have to buy chain ramps and a tensioner kit, but I think it would be a long term fix for the oil leaks. Anyone out there know if this can be done?
